SantaThing Donations 2019

With great pleasure I am kicking off the 2019 SantaThing Donation Thread!
We have some rules this year for the donation thread!
Members will be eligible for SantaThing donations if they meet the following two criteria:

- They must have been a member for at least two months (so, their account must have been created no later than September 18, 2019).
- They must have at least 50 books cataloged in their account.*

*Suggestions! If you are in a rut with this one and unsure how to get your book amount up try this! Add books to your wishlist or books you have read but do not own. As long as the overall count is over 50 then you are good to go!

The former is not easy to get around, but it is fairly easy to add more books to one's account if you're not quite at the 50 book threshold yet. Should someone in this situation request a donation, either Mellymel171328 or katemcangus will contact them directly to encourage them to beef up their catalog first.

Please feel free to ask if you are in need of a donation! If you want to become a secret santa and give an anonymous donation please feel free to message me directly. :)

Nov 19, 1:42pm Top

I look forward to SantaThing and remember it from the beginning. However my life has changed and I can’t afford to be a SecretThing. If someone is willing to adopt me I would be most thankful.

Note: We'll have a mechanism in place to facilitate this. As the payment method has changed, so we need a new way to donate and use donations.

>7 timspalding: I was unaware things had changed. Let me know how to help the donations sign up. :)

Nov 19, 10:54pm Top

I need a donation. This is my favorite time of the year!

Nov 20, 9:34am Top

Hello, are organization accounts allowed to receive a donation? I would love help adding to our small library if possible, but we do not have a budget currently.

Nov 20, 10:20am Top

>26 shapirolibrary: that would be a question for katemcangus http://www.librarything.com/profile/katemcangus .

I absolutely love SantaThing! Unfortunately I do not have the funds this year, and I would be forever thankful if I could have a donation this year!
Thank you so much❤️

Nov 20, 11:20am Top

I would like to be considered for a donation for me or my 8 year old daughter. I have multiple illnesses and I'm unable to work, so this will be a blessing. I would rather have her placed on the list, before me, because Christmas is really tight this year. Thank you!

Nov 20, 2:10pm Top

I would be extremely grateful if someone would adopt this bookdragon😊 I enjoyed participating in Santa Thing last year!

Nov 20, 10:45pm Top

I would appreciate being considered for a place on the donation list. This year is very tough financially and books have always been my greatest joy next to my daughter. Thank you donors for your kindness.

Nov 21, 12:37am Top

Please consider me for a donation

Nov 21, 9:22am Top

I would appreciate being considered for a spot on the donation list. This would be my first time doing Santa Thing. I hope to pay it forward next year!

Nov 21, 9:45am Top

I got the list updated. I am still waiting to hear how we are going to do donations this year. :) Sorry for the delay.

Nov 21, 1:38pm Top

I'm working on the code. Sorry for the delay.

Edited: Nov 22, 6:26pm Top

I'd like to be added to the donation list. I've retired and am now raising my 14 year-old granddaughter so my budget for books has become non-existant.

Not sure if you missed me or if I'm not eligible...

Nov 21, 2:21pm Top

Hello, if there are enough spots, I would appreciate a donation. Thank you for the chance to participate in your Christmas events.

Nov 21, 2:56pm Top

>35 timspalding: thank you for all you do! I know yall are doing everything you can.

Nov 21, 6:37pm Top

I would like to be added to the donation list, for SantaThing. Thank you.

Nov 23, 5:26am Top

If possible I'd love to be added to the donation list. I finally had my disability approved after a long fight so my hope is to be able to pay it forward next year once we are caught up on all the bills that have piled up since I had to stop working. 💜 Thanks for doing Santa Thing again! It always makes my Christmas that much more special.

Nov 24, 10:36am Top

How do we know if we recieved a donation?

Edited: Nov 24, 12:57pm Top

Okay, the code is now ready. Apologies for the delay. I'll let mellymel171328 know too.

You can buy a gift code here: https://www.librarything.com/santathing_giftpay.php

The page looks like this:

When you finish that process, you will be given a gift code. You can then give that to mellymel171328 , or you can give someone the gift directly.

To use a gift code, create a new SantaThing entry. After you fill in the first page, it'll take you to the payment page. There you will find an "I have a gift code" link. Click that and put your gift code there.

1. If you just want to buy a gift for a friend or family member, and you'll be filling everything out, don't use this method. The regular SantaThing Signup has a space to mark that the SantaThing is for someone else.
2. The gift code you use will trump the amount you entered. So if you enter $40 as your price, but your gift code is for $35, you will get $35.

Nov 24, 1:10pm Top

I have also posted a few-features thread here https://www.librarything.com/topic/313305

Edited: Nov 24, 3:01pm Top

>42 InsightsintoBooks: You will get a message from someone with a code. :)

Nov 24, 3:02pm Top

Please if you do pick someone to give a code too then please let me know so I can cross them off the list.

Nov 24, 3:53pm Top

I do have donations on the way out. However the Library Thing system thinks I am commenting too fast. I will continue as soon as I can. :)

Nov 25, 9:55am Top

>47 mellymel171328:

I'll be working on that. Sorry.

Nov 25, 10:03am Top

>48 timspalding: thanks. :) I just messaged Kate about it. I am sorry to bug yall.

Nov 25, 10:11am Top

No. We REALLY tightened comment sending for a while there, because of the Russian porn spammers. But I think the risk there has been lessened by the captcha. So it should be okay to loosen it.

Nov 25, 11:25am Top

Okay, comments have been fixed and the maximum expanded. See https://www.librarything.com/topic/312443#6977197

Nov 25, 12:00pm Top

>50 timspalding: I must of missed that! I had no idea that happened.

Nov 25, 12:32pm Top

I fixed a bug whereby, if you entered "TBD" as your code, you couldn't edit it later. Now you can.

Nov 25, 2:16pm Top

>1 mellymel171328:

I'm going to be inviting Litsy members to donate and to ask for donations, if they need them. Either I'll coordinate or someone from that community will step up.

I propose as the invitation floor:

1. Must be a Litsy member for two months
2. Because not everyone uses the Litsy "library" feature—which is so lame compared to LT!—then "must have at least 8 posts in the last two months."
3. Must be/become a LibraryThing member, so they can ask here.

Let's keep the donations separate for now, so you don't have to deal with it, mellymel171328. LibraryThing/Litsy will chip in two free Litsy-specific donations to start things, and we'll see if they get involved.

Nov 25, 3:27pm Top

>54 timspalding: sounds good. Send them on over.

Nov 25, 4:37pm Top

Thank you so much for the donation!

Nov 25, 6:46pm Top

I would like to donate... now should I pick a smaller amount and donate multiple times or pick a bigger amount and do it all at once?

More people would get the chance to participate if smaller amounts were done, but ultimately that is up to you ❤️

Edited: Nov 27, 11:44am Top

Any donation is welcome. >59 Amnt7314: in the 5 or so years I've ran the donation thread there has never been someone left out.

Nov 27, 2:29pm Top

I have given out as many codes as I have. :)

Nov 27, 4:47pm Top

That is amazing! I absolutely love this group of people!

Nov 27, 4:49pm Top

For my secret Santa; I cannot thank you enough! I will pay it forward next year.
Many thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Nov 27, 6:42pm Top

There truly are some incredible people in here! ❤

Nov 28, 3:45pm Top

Alas, I have to ask for a donation this year. Still climbing out of the financial hole after a stretch of unemployment! Thankful on this Thanksgiving Day for a good job, good friends, and the goodness of LibraryThing folks!

Nov 28, 4:05pm Top

>65 camelama: got you added.

Nov 29, 9:34am Top

A donation for me pls?

Nov 29, 11:23am Top

>67 Quati: on the list.

Nov 29, 11:33am Top

I'd like to participate in SantaThing but am overwhelmed when making recommendations. Choosing books for one person chosen for me would be more fun. But then funding gifts is a problem.

May I be added to the donations list?

Nov 29, 1:42pm Top

LibraryThing has increased its donations, which are now up to 12 $35 donations.

Nov 29, 2:02pm Top

Nov 29, 2:02pm Top

I'm sorry it's a slow morning but I'm very sure I have donations for everyone left. :)
