Comment Notification Stuck

I got a message to my wall, but even after reading it the yellow notification square is still there. I've closed and reopened the browser and even switched from Firefox to Safari but the "1" is still showing.

Yes, my notifications won't clear either.

I'm using FF 71.0 on Windows 10 64-bit.

Weird, mine have cleared from this morning. Are you all still seeing the yellow notifications even though you've viewed the new comments? Just want to confirm before passing along to a developer. (Which might need to hold off until SantaThing and Card Exchange madness passes, unfortunately—thanks for your patience.)

The messages both date from last night around 9 pm, if that helps pinpoint when/where the bug bit. Messages I received in the afternoon cleared immediately upon reading them.

I just sent myself a couple of messages from my TBR account, and the notifications cleared once I clicked 'See conversation.' They did not clear by going to my profile page and clicking on 'You have a new comment.' They also didn't clear when I clicked on the number icon to go directly to the comment wall.

(I don't do a lot of PMing on this site, so I don't actually remember how they've cleared in the past. Just thought the above might be useful info.)

I had two new comments this morning, one private, one not. I read both, but only the non-private one cleared. The private one is still showing the yellow.

Interesting, okay, thanks for testing this out! Will dig in as soon as we can.

Tested this out and can confirm. The notification does go away if you archive the comment, but not if you reply to it.

Both of my new comments are from @katemcangus. The message notification was not yellow before those two messages were received.

Same problem for me, notification of 2 posts from 2 people, both private. Tinkered with email notification settings (most likely not relevant but last week settings spontaneously changed to notify me by emai of posts), signing out, refreshing repeatedly. No joy.

Yeah, weird. I've alerted Tim of the issue, regardless, so he's aware and will take a look when he has time. Holiday craziness, for now!

This might have NOTHING to do with the bug discussed here, but in case it does, here's a new "issue":

When I post to a thread, then click on the talk tab, the thread I just posted to has "one unread", that is, my post shows up as unread. It never did that before. Whenever I have posted, the thread would be marked as read. Hmm.

Thanks. Glad you all are checking this out. I couldn't clear a private notification either. I first checked on laptop at home. When I got to work, I tried here too. Still have a yellow "1." Clicking "see conversation" didn't clear it either. It still shows as unread.

I had the "stuck" notification for a message regarding the new ER list. It survived multiple computer shutdowns. It would go away briefly when I went to my profile page and looked at it, but came back as soon as I navigated away from that page. It seems to have disappeared now that I deleted the message.

I thought it might have to do with a message that got edited?

Me have this issue too.

I hope they get this fixed soon. I keep clicking the brightly lit up yellow "2," but they are messages I've already read. It's driving me crazy.

Adding my 2-bits to all these notification woes:

I have both Safari and Firefox on a Mac OS version 10.13.6 (17G9016).
In Account Settings, I turned off the e-mail messages (except for 'State of the Thing' from LT) last spring when the Russian bot got into the LT system.

Like others here, my Wall comments do not clear (as of 2 days ago).
And I have had 1 e-mail from LT other than the 'State of the Thing'.

Mine is also the December ER notice. I'll archive it to get rid of the notification - glad it's not just me.

I am also having the stuck new message/comment issue. Its been this way for at least since Tuesday if not Monday for me.

By putting new private messages into archive & then unarchiving them I got notification of 3 posts down to notification of 1, so posts back in accessible place. (No idea why this won't work with that 1, though.)

My message notification is not clearing after several days, and it is showing a cumulative total.

I’ve recently had notifications of messages that I’d read go away, only to come back. It’s currently showing “2,” both of which I read last Monday and Tuesday, soon after they first posted.

My Early Reviewer notification of 3rd December still hasn't cleared, no matter how many times I've read it.

I'm using Safari on an iMac.

I'm having the same issue - my stuck-on-new comments are both from katemcangus (Dec 2 Early Reviewers notice and Dec 5th SantaThing notice).

Just piling on. I experienced this problem with a private message received on Sunday Dec 8.

All noted. It's the same issue that Tim hasn't had a chance to look at yet, but will as soon as he can I'm sure. Thanks for your patience, all!

In the meantime, if you'd like to clear your notifications for the sake of your own sanity, you can archive those private comments and the notifications should go away. Thanks again.

I'm also having the issue. I have no additional information to add, but I wanted to comment here to make it easier to follow along with any updates.

Update: I archived the two comments from LT, and the yellow dot disappeared. However now I have received a new comment, one I don't want to archive, so I'm back to seeing the yellow dot...

Just letting you know that I received a private message yesterday and despite having read it several times now etc, the yellow message light is still on after 24 hours or so. No big deal, but just so you know. It was from Tim Spalding regarding the Christmas Card Exchange. Thanks.

It was a number-limit bugged there from the beginning. We only now just hit the wall. :)
