I am in - or I will be in for as much as possible this weekend!

I'm sorry for forgetting the readathon yesterday. We got 5 inches of snow on Thursday and almost had a disaster with our greenhouse! We didn't get the snow swept off the greenhouse soon enough and it started to collapse. It took all afternoon to get everything back the way it was supposed to be.

While my numbers may not be high, I'll try to participate this weekend too.
>4 SilverWolf28: I'm glad you caught it before the greenhouse collapsed.

I’m in. I didn’t get any reading done last weekend buy this time I’m finishing Edward Gorey’s Amphigorey and trying to get as far as possible with Terry Pratchett’s Wyrd Sisters and Shirley Jackson’s Hangsaman.
I have some other things that need attention this weekend (knitting, sewing and a few longer walks), but otherwise I should be able to devote quite a lot of time to reading.

I'm in for sure! I'll be reading The Henna Artist non stop and then move on when it is completed.
>4 SilverWolf28: Yikes! about the greenhouse. Hurray for removing the snow in time of total collapse.

I'm in!
Reading The Island of Missing Trees and Empire of Pain while deciding what to start next.
I'll also be putting away all the Christmas things and attending a virtual board retreat for much of Saturday, so maybe less reading than I'd like.

Friday night update
Books Read From: Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker. Unwarrented: Policing Without Permission by Barry Feldman. We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Barry. I started Erotic Stories For Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal. I am listening to Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness.
Books finished in this week's Readathon: Circe by Madeline Miller. Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker. Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
Time reading: 1 hour at lunch and 1 hour after I got home from work today.
Time posting:
Food: A friend and I got take out from Panera and ate at her house. I had chicken and rice soup and the steak sandwich. We had hot tea and sat around and talked for two hours.
Thoughts: I have had a great week of reading. I finished listening to Circe on the trip back to Alabama and started a new book. I finished reading Invention of Wings and thought it was a very well done piece of historial fiction. The big winner this week was Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker. Once again this author managed to suck me into this story and make me care about all of these characters. The sequel was as good as the original. That is very rare and I enjoyed every minute of reading this book. Omicron is surging and live at UA is going to return to January 2021. Instead of moving forward we are staying in the same place. I have to have a mask on at all times in any campus building. I am thankful that I have full classes to prepare for. The students aren't dropping out and that is a good thing.
Total books finished since the read-a-thon began: 194
Total time reading for the Read-A-Thon since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 512 hours since April 2020 when I signed up for my first weekend readathon.

I finished De Herinnerde Soldaat by Anjet Daanje.
Title would translate to The Remembered Soldier. I thought it was very good, and it has given me a lot to think about.
Now having breakfast, and a cup of coffee. Heading off to do some shopping before it starts to rain.
Omikron here as well, I don’t know if the weekend market will be there.

Saturday morning check-in for Friday's reading:
Books read from: Holy Bible (KJV), The Untold Story of the New Testament by Frank Viola, God Hears Her: 365 Devotions for Women by Women by Our Daily Bread Ministries, King Lear by William Shakespeare
Books finished: 0
Time reading: 1 hour 15 minutes
Time posting: ?
Snacks: ginger snaps & chocolate
Thoughts: I love my cats!
Non-book activities: Zoom Genealogy Chat (pretty much all Friday evening)
Total books finished: 0
Total read from: 4
Total time reading: 1 hour 15 minutes
Reading notes: I didn't get my chapter read in The Radical Potter: The Life and Times of Josiah Wedgwood yesterday. I'll try to double-up on that one today. I also didn't get around to reading any from Louise Penny's The Madness of Crowds. I definitely want to remedy that today. King Lear is my driving audiobook.
I have an online genealogy society meeting late this morning and am going to listen to a friend give a webinar early this afternoon. I plan to read, do a little genealogy, and cross-stitch/watch TV most of the day otherwise. Of course, there will be breaks for cat petting.

Friday Reading:
Books read from: The Island of Missing Trees, Empire of Pain, Fun Home
Books finished: none
Pages read: 101
Time reading: about 2 hours
Time posting: 30 minutes
Dinner: Indian takeout--tandoori chicken, dal, palak chaat, onion kulcha
Thoughts: My daughter Helen is home from college (freshman year) and I'm so enjoying getting to spend time with her, especially after all the holiday activities are over. She has a nice long break and doesn't go back until the 16th. Actually, that may have gotten longer since the school just announced they will be virtual in January. Uh-oh.
Non-book activities: work, family board game (Azul), 3 episodes of Schitt's Creek, several episodes of a YouTube thing where people eat really spicy chicken wings (thank you Helen).

I won't get much reading done until this evening as I have a virtual retreat for a board that I serve on. It was supposed to be in person, but...omicron.

I'm in to read this weekend.
Books:
The Christmas Bookshop, Jenny Colgan
Should I Eat This? Simple Ways to Know What to Eat and What to Avoid, Consumer Reports.
Picked this up since I'm participating in the good health thread for 2022.
We Couldn't Leave Dinah, Mary Treadgold. Kids in WWII Britain.
Wild Rover No More: Being the Last Recorded Account of the Life & Times of Jacky Faber, L.A. Meyer.
Audio edition of the last of the Bloody Jack series. How I have loved these rollicking adventures!
Sorry to be almost done; I'll have to start over and read them again!
Food: just coffee so far. I'm doing intermittent fasting right now for health thread. Holding off till noon to eat.
Other activity:
Out early to take cat to vet for fluids. She's having to go about every 4 days.
sending cards for postcrossing.com
long walk later when it warms up a bit; averaging 2 miles a day (for health challenge!)

I didn't read in bed last night instead I watched an episode of Selling Sunset on Netflix.
Today is sunny but mighty cold so I intend to make it a day of reading The Henna Artist which I need done for Monday's Zoom book club meeting. Yikes! I also need to work on cross stitch baby bibs when the cats are napping. They seem to be able to hear a needle inserted into linen.

Books read from: The Sentence
Books finished: The Sentence
Time reading: 5 hours
Time posting: 11:30 AM
Snacks: cereal for breakfast
Thoughts: I rarely read literary fiction because most of the time I hate it, but I'm glad I made an exception in this case.
Non-book activities: Sleep, mostly. I'm getting over what I'm pretty sure is just a cold--I took an at-home covid test, which was negative--but was accompanied by what my doctor assures me was "benign positional vertigo." It's a bit disconcerting to wake up in the middle of the night and turn over in bed, only to feel like some superstrong giant has picked up the bed and is tilting the mattress such that I'm sure I'm about to crash onto the floor. (The worst of that seems to have passed, though.)

Yes. Yes, it is. The good news is that it will pass! I hope you're well on the mend now.

Saturday night update
Books Read From: Unwarrented: Policing Without Permission by Barry Feldman.
Time reading: 1 hour this morning
Time posting:
Food: chicken vegetable soup and cornbread. Very good for a coolish day.
Thoughts: I went to Birmingham today and spent the afternoon with a friend. We went out for Indian food for supper and then to a Books-A-Million store that is closing. She had a half price coupon for her purchases so I purchased $52.00 in books, and she purchased $125.00. That means that I got $100.00 worth of books for half price. YEAH! I did get at least one book that I already have in my collection. That was Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch. Oh well - sometimes you do that when you go shopping for books. I could have purchased more books, but didn't, as my office is so full of books that they are stacked on the floor. I need to read more and do it faster.

Total time reading for the Read-A-Thon since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 513 hours since April 2020 when I signed up for my first weekend readathon.

Sunday night update
Books Read From: Unwarrented: Policing Without Permission by Barry Feldman. We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Barry. Most of my reading today has been in Erotic Stories For Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal. I did some driving around town today so got a nice sized chunk of listening done on Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness.
Books finished in this week's Readathon: Circe by Madeline Miller. Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker. Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
Time reading: 1 hour this morning and 1 hour at lunch. I hope to get an hour of reading done tonight before bed as well.
Time posting:
Food: Indian food.
Thoughts: I have a love/hate relationship with the students at UA. They are back in droves today and I went to the supermarket to get food at 5 PM tonight. MISTAKE! The place was super crowded - no parking spots and almost no carts. Yep! The students were back in town. Tomorrow is the football game and they all came back today so they could celebrate, or cry in their beer, tomorrow night. I had a book club meeting today or I would have gone shopping much earlier this afternoon and missed the crowd. Publix's didn't have enough people working and the place was a madhouse. Somehow I got all the way home, and didn't have my celery, fennel, or onions and I was going to start some chicken soup tonight. I had to drive back and sure enough my sack was there, but a quick one hour jaunt to the grocery store turned into a 2 hour commute to the store. I like living close to work, but sometimes the crush is a pain when the students are back.

I forgot to post Sunday morning for Saturday's reading so today's covers both Saturday and Sunday:
Books read from: Holy Bible (KJV), The Untold Story of the New Testament Church by Frank Viola, God Hears Her: 365 Devotions for Women by Women by Our Daily Bread Ministries, The Radical Potter: The Life and Times of Josiah Wedgwood by Tristram Hunt, The Madness of Crowds by Louise Penny
Books finished: The Untold Story of the New Testament Church by Frank Viola
Time reading: 5.5 hours
Time posting: ?
Snacks: Rice Krispie treats
Thoughts: My cats are so helpful. One of them helped keep the thread from knotting by batting it. Another held the pattern down. All three served as lap warmers.
Non-book activities: Cross-stitching (almost done with a piece--I might finish today), church (online), online book club meeting and a little informal chat afterwards, lots of cat petting, lots of genealogy research (When you are discovering new things, it's hard to stop. Now I need to get most of the discoveries in my tree instead of just a research log. I did figure out who two people were in a household. I still need to figure out the two Gabriels. There's only 5 years between the two. I'm pretty sure the second one belongs to one of the daughters, and I can hazard a guess as to which one it is, but I need to be sure.)
Total books finished: 1
Total read from: all the above plus King Lear by William Shakespeare
Total time reading: 6 hours 45 minutes
I should finish the Wedgwood book Tuesday with my chapter a day approach if I read the epilogue with the last chapter. The epilogue is longer than most but not as long as a chapter.

Thoughts: I am enjoying Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows very much. It is a totally unexpected pleasure. I have had the book for almost 5 years and I dug it out because one of my real life book discussion groups is reading it for its January book. There is alot more to this book than just a simple rom/com. I am going to be encouraging people to read this one. Hidden Palace was another real gem of a book. It is a sequel but it can also be read as a standalone, but the reader will have to have some knowledge of middle eastern and Jewish myths in order to fully appreciate it.
