In 2022 the theme that I have selected is a hybrid again. We will be looking at MOTHER NATURE and all her many talents and we will be also looking at how those talents can influence the places that we find to settle into with a good book.
Mother Nature's talents to be highlighted in APRIL are RAIN, RAINBOWS, and FLOWERING TREES

Spring is here in the Northern Hemisphere and with it comes spring showers which nurture all flowers and trees that have been dormant in the colder weather. The sun seems to shine longer and the flowers pop up to brighter our days.
What are your favorite signs of spring?

Thanks for the gorgeous pictures, Chèli! And for doing the numbers.

I love to sit on my screen porch and smell the hyacinth and lily of the valley in bloom while I read a good book. Unfortunately, it's also the time when the cottonwood trees in the yard drop their cottonseeds. My husband and I call that "snow" season.

I can relate to all the pictures of rain, Cheli. The blossoms are pretty though.
9benitastrnad
The cotton from the cottonwoods in the spring is one of the things I miss about Kansas. I also miss the flying propellers from Elm trees.
10Kristelh
Beautiful pictures. I like the sounds of spring. The birds start their noise making and you know springs on its way.
11benitastrnad
I finished my first ROOT for April. This was a memoir by the great Chef Eric Ripert. The book was 32 Yolks: From My Mother's Table to Working the Line by Eric Ripert. Ripert is the head Chef at La Bernardine and has the record for longest held 3 star Chef in the US. It is a record he held for 10 years. I enjoyed this book and if a person is interested in the food scene it is one I would recommend.
12HelenBaker
I love these photos of rain. We are entering autumn and are desperately in need of rain. Hopefully soon.

Added my first ROOT of April to my personal ticker: The Tenth Doctor, Vol. 2, a Doctor Who comic set during the First World War.

Just finished my first 5* book for 2022 - Lost Coast Literary by Ellie Alexander. I've been reading her series books but I'm glad I picked up this new stand alone. It was sensational!
17benitastrnad
I finished another ROOT this week. It was Travels In Vermeer: A Memoir by Michael White. This was a good memoir even if it was melancholy in tone and tenor. It is also terse but packed with a huge amount of emotion. It was on the National Book Award longlist back in 2015 and it deserves to be on that list. It was good reading.
18Cora-R
I finished my first ROOT of April (17th of 2022): Peace Talks by Jim Butcher which I purchased 12/22/21.

What Strange Paradise by Omar El Akkad, which I've had since 2021
La Mare au Diable by George Sand on my shelves since 2008!
The Pelican Brief by John Grisham, new to me this year

I knocked out a ROOT! Stallions Gate by Martin Cruz Smith. I bought this one to read while I was stuck in an airport back in November. I had finished my long tome I brought along and (horrors) had nothing to read. I purchased this book and as soon as I got off the plane I tried to forget about it. The book was OK, but it just didn't hold my interest. I think that if I had been trapped in that airport for a couple more hours I would have finished it that day. As it was, I didn't pick the book up again until last weekend, and even then I didn't devote myself to reading it. It's not a clunker, but just not a winner either.

ROOT 4 for April and 20 overall: State of Terror by Louise Penny and Hillary Rodham Clinton; really fun and fast-paced.

I read alot over the Easter weekend, but none of them were ROOT's! With all those books on my shelves I opted to read new titles from the library that weren't off of my TBR list. How can I do that when I know I have books at home to read?

Just added an audio ROOT to my personal ticker: The Mysterious Affair at Styles, by Agatha Christie, read by Hugh Fraser. I've read this book many times in print, but this was my first time with the audio.

I finished another ROOT. This one has been on my shelves since 2019. Gunpowder Gardens: Travels Through India and China in Search of Tea by Jason Goodwin. I love reading travel books and this one was really good. It was a traditional travel book, but so much fun to read. Goodwin is a good author and his mysteries are also very good.

I have completed two roots so far this month,Berlin Poplars by Anne B. Ragde and Goodwood by Holly Throsby*. I am feeling very frustrated as once again my ticker page is flashing and I am unable to update my ticker.
So my count should read 16/48.

After reading a couple book club books, I am back with ROOT #11 of the year: Men Without Women by Haruki Murakami. Most of these stories were really well written, though I feel like I needed to be a little smarter to understand the allegorical content.

ROOT #11 for the year and the third one for April. No tickers updated and the review is on my thread.

April is turning out to be a slow month, five ROOTs so far. My own ticker is up-to-date.

I finished listening to another ROOT. This one was Ask and the Answer book two in the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness. This recorded version was very well done and was a very good listening experience. I will start on Book three in this series as soon as the recorded version of it comes back to the library.

#12 for the year, and #2 for April: Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks. I received this as a Book of the Month Club selection back in 2017. It was definitely just okay for me.

I just zipped through another book for April: Toasting Up Trouble by Linda Wiken. I don't read a lot of mysteries, and I like the idea of a cozy mystery. However, when the author's first line of the book was one character saying that calories don't count on Fridays, I was turned off and remained that way for the rest of the book.
