Trying to add The Road by Cormac McCarthy to my library
(https://www.librarything.com/work/1222607/summary)
And for some reason it ads this other book instead
(https://www.librarything.com/work/13809122/235309915)
Not even sure if its a real book, as it has "The Road" cover as a cover.

Since you have deleted it, we can't check what happened.
At least could you let us know how you tried to enter it. (search term, source, website or app...)
BTW, I think you mean adds, not ads.

I suspect you used 'add book express', so if it fails again, try regular 'add book' with a better source

>1 Dior_Eluchil: Do you mean this one? https://www.librarything.com/work/13809122/summary
It looks like it has an incorrect cover assigned to it. I've flagged the cover for what it's worth.
ETA: by the looks of it the rubbish covers are coming from Amazon

If only the cover is wrong, you can always upload the correct one. Apparently, Amazon assigned The Road cover to this ASIN for some reason, even though all editions are for a different work.
6MarthaJeanne
A book can also be separated from the wrong work and combined to the right work.

>2 MarthaJeanne: I'm just adding the book from the button on the top right "add" button on the main page for The Road (https://www.librarything.com/work/1222607)
Just readded it and it happened again.

>3 SandraArdnas: Adding from main page of The Road tho, that seems weird
9MarthaJeanne
That is what Amazon is doing. Use a different way of adding.

>7 Dior_Eluchil: Don't use the +Add or quick add or express Add or whatever the heck they're calling it. Instead of clicking the green +Add to your library button click the Advanced link and then -> the 'go to Add books' link and you'll get the right book without having to change the source from Amazon.
11MarthaJeanne
Or, go into your settings and change the settings for Quick Add (in Other settings) from Amazon to Library sources.

Odd. Cautious around Cats can't be found on Amazon. It isn't even a book. It's a broadside: https://www.kensandersbooks.com/pages/books/52870/gary-stein/cautious-around-cat...
But if you look at "editions", apparently it was somehow given the same ISBN as The Road.

Hm, that is weird. I'm not sure what we or Amazon are doing here. Asking @knerd.knitter about this.

I think this is probably related to https://www.librarything.com/topic/348423 which we are working on. When we have that fixed, I will test this one as well.
15knerd.knitter
Verified that this happens when attempting to add The Road from work page Add button
16knerd.knitter
This has been fixed, although the fix is that now the add books lightbox shows you the actual title that will be added; we can't control what data we get back, but at least this way you can see that the title being added is not the one you expect.

That strikes me as an actual improvement in the function, FWIW. The handful of times I've had this problem, I've often started on a flurry of corrections before realizing there was a problem. This will save a lot of time.

Fix is temporarily unfixed.

>16 knerd.knitter: Can you explain what the Add Express/Quick Add is using as the lookup identifier? The pop up (for The Road) indicates it's ISBN 0307387895 but that can't be accurate because if I use that ISBN from the real LT Add books page using the same source (Amazon.com) I get the correct book. If I search Amazon.com directly with that ISBN I get the correct book.
20knerd.knitter
Unfixed fixed is re-fixed. : )
>19 Taliesien: We are looking into this. Likely some kind of edition/bad isbn mixup.

Addbooks express uses stored data—records from Amazon and libraries. Unfortunately it occasionally happens that there's ratty data from Amazon. That cats book, for example, had the ISBN of the road in the data they gave us.
We are working to reduce the problem. The Road now gives the correct book because we do some probability math around it, noticing that of the jillion ISBNs records for the Road, only one of them has a title about cats.
Anyway, we are working on making this better. It's mostly good, but some screw ups remain.
