just in case though...
so, most of my Amazon - via the new green add button - have been fine. i have a couple i need to clean up before clicking.
this evening, however, i got a plethora of foreign titles/covers. ive been erasing all data associated with that and re-entering the english. differing languages, primarily, Portuguese.
Is there a reason for that? i dont generally get books of other languages, directly from Amazon.

You really need to provide examples of suspected bugs.
However, this does sound like an Amazon issue. But we can't tell for sure unless you provide an example.
When you do find a bug, report it, and please leave it. When you "fix" it, it makes it harder to track down.

I manually entered this- to avoid the "whatever".
hover on this button- or click on it you won't have to click to confirm- you will see right off that a weird cover appears- but not in a foreign language. doesn't seem to affect copies on this site at all

>9 lilithcat: They're using the new Quick Add Books (ABX) "Add" button as mentioned in >1 EGBERTINA:
>1 EGBERTINA: I've been noticing this for awhile and couldn't explain the issue very well. When it was explained to me how editions are being selected with the new ABX feature, it made sense, but now I've forgotten that and I'm confused again. :)
To reproduce the issue with your ABX add of "The Wall" above (https://www.librarything.com/work/2990773):
1. Make sure that Amazon is your preferred source for Quick Add (https://www.librarything.com/settings/other)
2. Go to https://www.librarything.com/work/2990773 and see the work title The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain
3. Click the green ABX "Add" button to add it to your library.
4. When the ABX pop-up shows, you still see the English title, Amazon.com as the source, but note the non-English cover:

5. Click "Add to Your Library" and get the notification that "The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain" has been added:

6. Refresh the page and see that you now have a non-English title in your library: https://www.librarything.com/work/2990773/details/234672080
It's definitely confusing to know exactly what is getting added to your library via ABX. I'm going to see what the developers think.

clicked on first link- yes its set to amazon.
of course i can no longer hit button again - unless i delete that copy and start over.
hovering from caldecott list indicates only the english version
got lost after that
all the books i showed here and several more (that i didn't include, so as not to overwhelm you) - all came from the caldecott honor list

>11 EGBERTINA: You can always try changing your preferred data source to libraries at https://www.librarything.com/settings/other to see if that improves data! We are going to look at at least showing the actual title that you're adding in ABX, rather than the work title which may not always match the ABX edition you're adding.

Im unlikely to do much this week, as my focus is on finishing all the caldecotts. (i am at 75% at least.)
am i able to clean up my selections> or do you need them left as is?

so i went in and checked on things in my library
i see this isn't listed as fixed
for a few days i have manually entered as much as possible to avoid this.
just now, i re-clicked on this one and it still came up Potruguese.

>16 EGBERTINA: Nothing about this has been fixed/changed yet. The issue isn't necessarily a bug, per se, but it's rather in what we're showing you is being added to your library.
If you use the green "Add" button on the work you gave as an example: https://www.librarything.com/work/2990773, you'll note that the cover image is for the Portuguese edition.
Instead of us showing you the Portuguese title in the green "Add" (Quick Add Books) pop-up, we're showing the work title (which is in English, and is confusing). I think the developers are going to change this to match the edition that you're actually going to be adding to your library, so it's less confusing. This change hasn't been made, yet.
Thanks for your patience in the meantime, let me know if you have further questions!

>17 kristilabrie: grasping that a little more. sounds like when i hover over green button there is something indicating the Portuguese part- probably, it is too small for my eyes to have observed the subtlety
thank you
thank you
19kristilabrie
>18 EGBERTINA: Yes, so, when you click the "Add" button and the Quick Add Books pop-up opens up, the cover image of the book you're adding should reflect the actual edition you're adding to your library. We need to make sure the title (what is actually in the text) is also reflecting the edition you're adding, so it's more clear.
20knerd.knitter
>18 EGBERTINA: The issue isn't that it's preferring Portuguese for you for some reason but that the best one it can find from the source is Portuguese. If you switch to library sources it may not happen as this is usually just an Amazon issue with the multiple languages coming back.
22knerd.knitter
>21 Taliesien: No, we need to update the title to actually display what you're going to be getting in the catalog. But we can't control what Amazon provides.
24EGBERTINA
>21 Taliesien: yes- i wondered what the heck that book was supposed to have been. i tried to figure out which caldecott had gone awry, but i never could. i ended up deleting it.
as to the rest of the conversation- i'm getting that woozy- i dont comprehend felling. but i'll try to keep up

would love to. no offense to amazon- i feel like a "kmart" librarian with all those amazon books. no logic to it- just a feeling.
so. ill try that

Verified that this happens with The Wall.
27knerd.knitter
This has been fixed, although the fix is that now the add books lightbox shows you the actual title that will be added; we can't control what data we get back, but at least this way you can see that the title being added is not the one you expect.
28knerd.knitter
Fix is unfixed.
