Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I have launched my new private press today: Awen Press. I am primarily an engraver, but also about 6 or 7 years into typography, working alongside Graham at Incline Press.
Awen is an ancient Welsh or Celtic word that means poetic inspiration, or the creative spirit. I am currently working in Oldham, England; but we shall soon be moving to Scotland - one of life's big adventures.
My new book M A R Y is out today. It has taken about eight months to make, between the not insignificant jobs of managing the business end of Incline Press, being the printers devil, and preparing to move house.
As I know everyone on this forum can appreciate, making a handmade book in the the traditional way, is almost insanely time consuming, and requires the various skills of book design, drawing, carving, Albion press wrangling, printmaking, typesetting, collating, binding and marketing. With every book I learn more, and the new skill of this project has been making my own slip cases.
I hope you will reach out on social media or take a visit to my website, and let people know I am here. Its a big gamble, in a relentlessly digital world! Onward friends!

Congratulations on the release of M A R Y! I've been following your progress on Instagram and it has indeed been a lot of effort on your part to make this happen. I've order my copy and I hope this release heralds many more to come from you!

Very much looking forward to this both because of the theme and the emotional impact of the art. If you haven't visited the website yet, do it!

>3 abgreens: Thank you so much, I try to put as much truth into my work as I can. Wonderful to hear people like it, I know it is not always easy to look at. Best wishes.

>2 Shadekeep: Thank you so much, what a lovely message to receive. And your order will certainly be 'converted' into the materials for the next book. We have a bit of a project in moving our workshop to Scotland, but my head is full of several new ideas that I can't wait to get started on once it is all relocated. Your support is immensely practical to me, thank you again. Helen

>5 HelenMoss: Received M A R Y, thanks Helen! What a large and powerful book. Photos can't do the prints justice, they are so striking in person. So much intensity went into their creation that you can feel it.

I second the above. You know when you suspect the artist was deeply moved by something and then was able to translate that to visuals and/or words that recreate that intensity? I think Helen Moss did an incredible job of creating a visual experience that elicits that depth of emotion. Another thanks to Helen for _Mary_.
