We will have to find a way to weather the storm. I know it is extremely difficult. I was reflecting on that a lot today. My father's birthplace was Vienna. He left in 1938 after the Anschluss. This brings a poignancy to our situation in America for me that I never anticipated. I hope those of us in America will protest, write letters to our Congress people every week and hope/pray/insist that democracy is stronger than one crazy man. May the force be with us!!

From today's Vienna, I just had to try to explain to one of the gardeners planting our new bushes, why I prefer to live here. He just shook his head and said that if he had the chance to move to America he'd be off like a shot.

When I opened the link, I was struck by the visualized cultural break – or rather, the cultural collapse – before even going into detail. The worst are the screaming capitals and all those exclamation marks. Good Lord have merci.

From a young fellow who gave us a ride after we missed our bus one day, we learned that there is an annual and very much anticipated lottery there for visas to the U.S. Our friend had not had any luck this year, but was telling us how much he'd love to be able to move his young family to America. He seemed quite the go-getter, juggling three independent businesses to make ends meet. I'd be happy to have him here. In fact, there are a lot of Albanians in New York City these days.
