Hi! I’m Carrie in East Tennessee. Librarian, reader, knitter, musician, dog lover. 2025 started with a major transition for me. I said goodbye to my much-loved fur baby, Adrian, a couple of days after Christmas. I was not looking for another dog, but a loveable Cavapoo puppy named Wally found me later in the winter. Wally loves books. He finds them really tasty! I started a year-long mystery knit-along blanket project in January, and knit while I watch BritBox and Acorn. I've found that I don't want to knit much in the summer, so I'm behind on the project. Hopefully I will catch up later in the year.

>2 cbl_tn: Yay for Wally! I know exactly what you mean about Wally 'letting' you read although in my case it is 2 cats. . .
>3 cbl_tn: Nice list! I will have to check and see if they are all in the BlackHole. I have read My Family and Other Animals already and know for sure that Death at the Sign of the Rook is since I am going through the Jackson Brodie books currently. The others I am not sure of at all.

Hi Carrie: Both The Authors Guide and The Queens of Murder sound terrific and will have to go onto the TBR pile which, sadly, hasn’t accumulated too many additions in recent months.
52cbl_tn
>51 lindapanzo: Hi Linda! I think you will like both of those books. If you ever listen to audiobooks, both are really well narrated.
I hope you have a restful weekend and mom continues to heal.
I hope you have a restful weekend and mom continues to heal.

>55 cbl_tn: I’ve had the Dick Van Dyke book on the TBR pile for forever. I need to get to it soon.

>55 cbl_tn: I listened to that one on audio, back when I was still working, and was very grateful to have it one late afternoon when I was stuck in a traffic jam.
62cbl_tn
>60 lindapanzo: I think the print would be just as entertaining as the audio version, plus it probably has photographs. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it!
>61 laytonwoman3rd: Dick Van Dyke would certainly make a traffic jam more pleasant!

I finished the Dick Van Dyke book last night. Really enjoyed it. He’s led an interesting life but some parts did bug me.

>78 cbl_tn: I started the book today and was taking a quick peek to see if you had finished it - I knew that you were having a problem with some of the narration of the audiobook. I am glad to see that you ended up enjoying the book, Carrie!

>80 alcottacre: That's great, Stasia! I hope the book works as well for you as it did for me, even with the parts of the narration that seemed off to me.

(plus a few by now :))
>92 cbl_tn: I love the sound of this one! There's nothing like a train trip, imo. We don't have many non-tourist train routes here in NZ.

I saw a lot of tempting mysteries on your thread and now feel like I need to track down some new-to-me Nero Wolfe books.
121cbl_tn
>120 Familyhistorian: Hi Meg! I plan to read all of the Nero Wolfe books. Fun fact - Rex Stout is my 3rd cousin 3x removed. :-)
124mstrust
>122 cbl_tn: That sounds like a very interesting case, but I'll take your advice and look for another source.
125cbl_tn
>124 mstrust: There doesn't seem to be much out there. The only other biography I can find is the one by Lee Israel. I'll have to see if I can track down a copy.

Merry Christmas, Carrie! Thank you so much for your generous gifts. I loved all the book selections and appreciate the time you took to wrap each one. I plan on reading 2 of these soon. Have you read any of them? I hope you have a wonderful holiday.
128cbl_tn
>127 msf59: Yes, I've read Winter Counts, Winter's Tales, and the Jean Stafford collection. I don't read nearly as many short stories as you do, but of the collections that we share my ratings seem to mirror yours so I took a chance on the Stafford since I didn't see it in your library. The Dinesen was my grandmother's.

>128 cbl_tn: I think that is awesome that you have read several of those, Carrie. My plan is to read the Yoon collection next and then Winter Counts. At least I can get a couple of them out of the way, before they get lost in the avalanche of other books in the New Year.

Your Christmas reads look very interesting, Carrie. I hope your Christmas was a merry one and all the best for 2026!

>133 msf59: Sounds like a good plan! I had hoped for a sequel to Winter Counts by now. It seems I won't have to wait much longer. I see a sequel is due to be published in July.
>134 Familyhistorian: Thanks, Meg! I have enjoyed my Christmas reading. The holidays are just getting started for me. My brother and sister-in-law and some of her extended family are arriving today and staying through New Year's.

Happy New Year, Carrie. I finished The Honey and the Hive. An excellent collection. He is a fine writer. I just started Winter Counts and that one also shows promise. Glad to hear that there will be a sequel. I wondered if he had wrote anything new. See you on the other side.
