Just wondering what you all have recently added to your library and what made you choose it/them. I'm always looking for new ideas...

The most recent additions to my library are The Bondwoman's Narrative, by Hannah Crafts and Beware of God by Shalom Auslander, both of which I picked up off my library's sale rack because they looked intriguing. The former, of course, I had read about when Henry Louis Gates first discovered and published it, but I never got around to reading it. Maybe I will now!

Then I went downstairs to an author program, and picked up Kenan Heise's Chicago afternoons with Leon : 99 1/2 years old and looking forward, because I'm a huge admirer of Leon Despres, even when I don't agree with him. Despres is a former Chicago alderman and thorn in the side of Mayor Richard J. Daley, and, at 100, is still actively fighting the good fight.

THE BONDSWOMAN'S NARRATIVE is one I have been thinking of picking up. I know there has been debate about the author and authenticity it appears obvious that the author knew well of what they wrote so should be an excellent read. I would like to know what you think of it.

The two newest books in my library are Everything I Know I Learned on Acid and The Essential Crazy Wisdom. Both were recommended by my friend in Japan whom I call once a week. He is the only one I can talk books and trash with.

I just picked up 4 books in the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. Everyone I know has read & loved the first book, so I read it over the weekend, really enjoyed it & finally got to the library to pick up a few more. I have the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th books. The 2nd and 6th were checked out already.

I also checked out The Read Aloud Handbook because I am looking for ideas to build my kids' book collections.

You know there's an almost identical thread in this group that's started monthly (sometimes twice monthly, it gets big) called "What Books Came Into Your Home Today." Maybe you can check that one out!

Here's a link.

A Short History Of Nearly Everything because I'm trying to read more nonfiction.
The Thirteenth Tale so people will stop telling me to buy it and read it.

I just bought the Crimson Sword by Eldon Thompson

Dark Angels by Karleen Koen

and Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn.

I have never read anything by these authors, I was just wandering around in a bookstore, and decided to buy these books.

The only one I have started is The Crimson Sword, so far it okay, but not great.
