I'm starting to catalog my board game collection, mostly so that I don't end up with more duplicate copies when I see something on sale.
I'm bumping into an issue with the Media field (which in my head I'm mapping to 336-338). I can add "3-D object" as a new media type, but this should be a rooted media, with "Game," "Tactile Object," or "Unmediated" under it? have been able to add "3-D Object" under "Other," but have not been able to add subtypes under that.
I'm thinking that, for those of us who care, if we had "3-D Object" and "Collection" as root media types we could take it from here?

Hm, I'm not saying you can't catalog board games here, but boardgamegeek.com is built for it.

>1 Jesse-Susan-A: You can create new media under Other. I'd personally go straight to boardgames, so Other -> Boardgame. There can be only 2 subclasses anyway

I would second the recommendation for BoardGameGeek.com as more useful for keeping track of board games. There's a fair number of apps that allow integration with the site to track owned games on smart phones, and wishlist etc.

I understand that BGG has a good cataloging system, but we are trying to reduce the number of apps we have and more accurately reflect our collection in one place (we are moving on to ephemeral recordings next). I'm using an alternate rule for the Media field, so I have "3-D Object (Board Game)" since I can't nest....

>5 Jesse-Susan-A: I agree with that. I've got most of my RPGs catalogued here and on RPGGeek with a link to RPGGeek in my catalogue (in the same way as I have a link to Discogs in my audio collection). But I haven't yet got around to cataloguing my boardgames.
I really don't want to juggle multiple websites when I go to a convention just to check whether I have a title or not. It's like consolidating my ebook collection in Calibre and sideloading onto my Kobo - I don't want to juggle multiple apps especially when I've got a series from multiple sources.

>1 Jesse-Susan-A: Hey! I'm looking into also cataloging my board games here for similar reasons, but I'm struggling to add them to my account -- searching by ASIN using Amazon Other Media doesn't seem to be finding any results for even the most common of games like Uno. Are you adding manually, using CueCat, or meeting with success in some other way I'm not seeing?

>7 sarahope_m2: It's unlikely that you'll be able to add board games from an outside source (not impossible, but unlikely). I'd recommend adding manually.
If you go to the editions subpage of the work page for Uno ( https://www.librarything.com/work/9915235/editions ) and then click on "notes" at the top, you can see that almost all of the editions are manually entered. That's a good indicator of how hard it's going to be to add something from an outside source.

>9 davidgn: On TinyCat, board games are listed under the "specialty items" that can be logged (was hoping to share a catalog with my family), so it didn't seem out of line to expect some function there, but it seems like it's loosely possible but not really facilitated.

A book is a 3-D Object.

>1 Jesse-Susan-A: It is a good idea but 3-D implementation is really hard to do and it will cost you a lot of money as far as I know and I would recommend you to gather some info about it to not spend to much cash on books and I went to play recently https://win.bet/en and it helped me to earn some money for a long time

I still haven't cataloged any board games on LT, but I do have a few books cataloged on BGG, e.g.:
