@StaciaV Welcome! You have beaten the ones I've been talking to about creating this group in joining. You are our first member! I feel like there should be a prize.

I hope you will bear with us as the group really was created just minutes ago and is going to need some time to get going. Are you coming to LT from GR? Please feel free to share any ideas you have for the group or anything about yourself you'd like to share.

I really like your profile picture, got a good giggle from me. I look forward to getting to know you and hope you enjoy your time here.

@StaciaV so glad you are here! I can't wait for a group read with you. I have loved your reviews on GR. You are an original thinker. Funny and smart. Yay!

Thank you both! I'm super new to LT (just created an account overnight & pulled in my GR info). So, I'm learning everything & feel like I probably have a long, long way to go! Lol.

About me, books wise: I've been on GR for about 15 years but will probably try to exist in both spaces for awhile. I may be slower to post here as I learn the ropes & systems on LT. I mostly read fiction & prefer modern, post-modern, surreal, & unusual fiction the most. That said, I read quite a few classics this year; somehow it has been comforting in what feels like a time of upheaval to remember that people have dealt with upheaval & dumb/horrible things previously & managed to get through most of the time. I also try to read quite a bit of translated literature & work to make sure I'm reading translations from a variety of languages. For example, I track my annual translated reading on GR here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/22994957-stacia-s-2025-translated-language-....

I will certainly bear with you as this group gets up & going. I'm here to learn & to meet other readers. Looking forward to getting to know all of you better too!

>3 StaciaV: I absolutely loved that you've posted about your reading choices and interests.

I bought a few books from NYRB in August when they had a "Celebrating Women in Translation Month" 40% off sale. My interest in that genre started the last year reading the dystopian I Who Have Never Known Men and The Summer Book which reminded me of my own relationship as a granny to my then 8 year old sensitive granddaughter. The NYRB books I purchased (not yet read) are short stories The Dead Girls' Class Trip, essay On the Abolition of All Political Parties, the graphic (and weird) short stories The Green Hand and Other Stories and 4 (!) more titles of Finnish Tove Jansson. I need to get cracking on all those, one of many 2026 reading goals.

Speaking of goals, your Around the World in 80 Books is impressive! I'll definitely be carving some time to out to read your reviews from that list.

It's bad over on GR right now with the recent announcement, but I'm still optimistic about the upcoming year. I have been running GR and LT parallel myself since around August and will keep doing that for all of 2026 if possible. It's extra work and sometimes a bit of a whirlwind. By the end of 2026, well, I'll assess how I feel about keeping on GR's platform.

SO glad you are among those that are now at both places. If you need any help getting around here, I'd be glad to help any way I can. And the group Welcome to LibraryThing! is a treasure trove of helpful people, absolutely indispensable.

That's awesome that you have interest in Women in Translation month. The past few years, I have tried to concentrate on WiT month. I did well with it this year. My favorites that I read for WiT this year are Vladivostok Circus by Élisa Shua Dusapin, tr. from the French by Aneesa Abbas Higgins and Carnality by Lina Wolff, tr. from the Swedish by Frank Perry. Runners up are Nails and Eyes by Kaori Fujino, tr. from the Japanese by Kendall Heitzmann and A Little Luck by Claudia Piñeiro, tr. from the Spanish by Frances Riddle.

I read The Summer Book a few years ago but that's the only Tove Jansson I've read. I'm now checking out some of the others you listed! :-)

P.S. It's fun trying out this "Touchstones" option. Very cool.
P.P.S. But, two of the "Touchstones" automatically linked to incorrect books so I've had to go in & edit with basic html. So, I guess, check your links when doing Touchstones. Or, as I continue to edit, it seems like you can do Touchstones or html but not both because somehow mixing them in the same message messes things up...???

>5 StaciaV: When you create touchstones you'll see a list of them on the right side of the message box (underneath if you're on a narrow screen). Underneath each title you'll see (others); click on that if the wrong book comes up and you can scroll through a list to find the correct book.

And welcome to LT!

>1 TonjaE: I'm also on Goodreads, I've been here for a year and I'm kind of more familiar with how it works here. I really like the little extras here that makes things easier to post. Touchstones is one of my fav, on Goodreads, before they provided the widget to find the book to post it was such a hassle, here you don't even have to do that and just put it in square brackets, but it took me awhile to find the list of different editions, which I stumbled on by accident when clicking on 'others'.

I read translations via being interested in old stories, and I think it's amazing and always feel lucky when I find a work in translation.

Enjoy the journey here and welcome to the group and LT
