January SFFKIT is about book to movie or series adaptations.
I feel I hardly need to list any for this as there are SO many! But I would love to hear if you watched the adaptation as well as read the book, as let's just say, some are more successful than others!
The wiki is here, if you like to add your book.

My book club is reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling but I will probably be reading it at the end of December as our meeting is on 3 January.
I also have Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne on my TBR list.

If I don't get to it this year, I will continue Narnia with The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis. I absolutely loved the BBC adaptation of this book, totally weird!

I'm planning to read Fritz Leiber's Conjure Wife, which has been adapted as a movie three times. None are currently available for streaming on any of the major US services, so I probably won't be able to watch one of them.

I am going back in time to The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs of which both the full book and portions of the book have been made into many films and television shows.

>3 JayneCM: I'm planning to read a Narnia book, too. The next one for me is Prince Caspian. I haven't watched the 2008 adaptation so far, but I think I'll watch it afterwards.
7susanna.fraser
I'm thinking of reading Mickey7.

I'm a bit ahead because I already started my new reading year. Today I finished Prince Caspian, the fourth Narnia book. I hope to watch the adaptation soon.

I've been meaning to re-read The Last Unicorn for ages--I haven't read it since middle school. I've watched the animated movie probably more than any other movie--dozens upon dozens of times over my life, I'd guess--so it feels like about time I give the book a re-read!
10susanna.fraser
I just finished Mickey7. It was entertaining, but I don't agree with the couple of reviews I saw that compared it to Murderbot or The Martian--the voice and characterizations weren't on the same level for me.

>10 susanna.fraser: It would have to be exceptional indeed to measure up to those two.

>9 whitewavedarling: That is one of my all-time favorite books! I also watched the movie a few years back and liked it a lot better than my 17-year-old self did. They really did a great job of showing the etherealness of the Unicorn, and her voice! Just so spot on.

I've been meaning to get back to the "Foundation" series for a while now, after I re-read Foundation and enjoyed it a great deal. I've seen several episodes of the streaming series and thought they did a good job with it. Plus, it covered waaaay more than the first book did.
So, my choice for this month is Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

>11 mysterymax: It really would! I'm so looking forward to having another Murderbot book later this year.

My book club's meeting was postponed for a week, so starting Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling now.

Read Tidsmaskinen, a graphic novel adaptation of H G Wells novel The Time Machine by Dobbs and Moreau.

I finished Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

The sff books that have been adapted that I'm planning to read are::
Stepfoed Wives, watching at least one of the movies.
Frankenstein, watching the movie directed by James Whale
I'm also planning to read:
Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams
The Cloning of Joanna May
Bram Stoker's Dracula Film and Legend -- this is the screenplay
The Iliad
But I'm not sure about watching the screen adaptations, which I think there are for the first two, and the third I'm fairly sure is the shooting script. The fourth one, not sure if it counts as SFF, or if I'll watch Troy again, which was 3 hours too long.

I have completed my read of The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Totally over the top and very dated, nevertheless, this is one stirring adventure story. I had meant to only read volume one but couldn't stop so read all three volumes.

I'm about halfway through Project Hail Mary, the film will be released early in 2026.

>20 DeltaQueen50: I also read an Edgar Rice Burroughs which fits A Princess of Mars. I would describe it pretty much the same, a fun adventure but very dated. I do not plan to continue with the rest of the series.
I also hope to get to the next book in The Expanse series for me, Persepolis Rising by James S. A. Corey for this month.

>22 avatiakh: Yay! Rocky is my favourite character ever! Hope you love it.
25avatiakh
>24 JayneCM: I finished this morning and yes, Rocky was pretty cool.
26JayneCM
>25 avatiakh: I am very interested to see how they interpret him and his language in the movie.

I read The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani, which was made into a Netflix original film in 2022. I probably won't watch it, though, as I didn't much care for the book!
28MissWatson
I have finished Fahrenheit 451 which was made into a movie a few years after publication. I think it differs in some aspects from the book, which has held up remarkably well.
29avatiakh
>26 JayneCM: The trailer just hints at Rocky.

Little Fires Everywhere
This family drama follows the picture-perfect Elena Richardson and her picture-perfect family, who reconsider everything in the light of Mia and Pearl Warren, who come into town following their own rules and befriend the family. Tensions in picture-perfect Shaker Heights are already raised regarding a custody battle between a Chinese mother and her 1-year-old daughter's rich, white, adoptive parents, until a house fire at the Richardson's gives everyone something new to talk about.
This story, unfolding in all directions from the house fire that opens the book, had me hooked from the beginning. Technically this is not SFF, but I did choose it specifically because it has an adaptation!

I did manage to get to Persepolis Rising by James S. A. Corey for this month. I hope to finish the rest of the series this year and then finish watching the TV show. I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons.

I did finish the next Asimov book, but it seems I had the title wrong. I read Foundation and Empire (the second in the original trilogy) and liked it. I don't know if I would have appreciated it, or even finished it, in my late teens and early 20's, but here I am, decades later, finding it a 4 **** read.

Late entry, but I forgot to put down The Village Beyond the Mist by Sachiko Kashiwaba. It's was one of the inspirations for Miyazaki's film Spirited Away.
