I am new to Library Thing, and I have never joined a group, so I am not exactly sure how this works. This is exactly the reading challenge I am working on this year so I thought I would try this out. I hope I am doing this all correctly.

As far as I can see you've made a ticker, put that in the ticker thread and in your own thread. Whenever you add a book to your ticker it will update everywhere you use it. And you have become a member. So you're doing just fine.
You can visit a few threads and see how other members use it.
