LT is a site for cataloging books. When the owner, Tim Spalding, created this site, people PAID MONEY to join. It's *that* important to people who love books.

The 'mods' are just regular members who would like people who sign up for accounts to appreciate how valuable this site is for people who love books.

This isn't a social media site per se. Using this site to talk simply because you are bored is not the raison d'être of LT.

So, here's a few suggestions.

Try writing in complete sentences.

Sentences which make sense are important in this community.

Use punctuation.

Be respectful of the members who have been here to use the site as it is intended to be used.

The people who are here are serious about books. If you are not serious about books, there's other places which might be a better fit for you.

I'm not 40, but rather older. Like most people under 40, however, I have spent more than half of my adult life not owning an automobile.

I'm currently enjoying my read of James Howard Kunstler's 1993 Geography of Nowhere, which recounts the history and culture by which the US has made unpersons of me and my fellow ambulators. With some explicit discussion of the "oil crises" of the 1970s, Kunstler takes as axiomatic that the precarity of fuel costs associated with impending peak oil will eventually put paid to car culture, leaving us with the inhospitable landscape that has been built for these metal monstrosities. War with Iran much?

LibraryThing will hold its value, as will my ink-and-paper book collection.

I'm thinking further on the lines of my >42 paradoxosalpha:, and I suspect that the carless yoot of today, having been so deprived of a public sphere in meatspace, react with a correspondingly greater sense of entitlement in this digital realm. That and the algorithmic lockdown of 'net resources leads them to the supposition that any old keysmash is welcome wherever they put it.
