My goal for this month is more modest in terms of books and pages because the end of the semester is always busy.
Also, I am combining ROOTs with some other challenges.
1.Belfast Confetti by Ciaran Carson (poetry for BINGO)
2.The Ballad of Tom Dooley by Sharyn McCrumb (state next door for BINGO)
3. Crossings by Alex Landragin (difficult to categorize for BINGO)
4-6.The next 3 Sandman Mystery Theatres from my Comics TBR (Dr. Death completed; two more to read)
7. Moriarty Lives by David Liss, the last installment of the Dynamite Sherlock Holmes series (from Comics TBR)
Also, I am combining ROOTs with some other challenges.

Since I came back to LT in January, started adding books (more 1,700), and joined in the community dialogue on various threads, I have been thinking a lot about my TBR. This morning I found this great article. I am leaving it here for now. Gonna go ponder some of its points and come back when I have more time.

>10 rhondak101book: lovely article, Rhonda. I kind of consider my TBR a security blanket of sorts: all sorts of treasures await me regardless of my situation!

>10 rhondak101book: Thanks for sharing the article, I enjoyed reading it. Happy ROOTing! And yes Cecilturtle it is like a security blanket with treasures awaiting you! That's a great description and no one has to feel guilty about having one or the size of it, or pressured to keep up, its a never ending journey of discovery to just enjoy.

As I said above, I have been adding a lot of books to LT recently. Some of them were "the ones that are basically reference books or coffee table type books that a person is not likely to read cover to cover." Knowing I would probably never read the whole book, I would really get stuck thinking about whether to add it to Your Library or the To Read collections Why did I worry? I think this aligns very well with the type of anxiety that TBRs can cause. She is correct. They become mountains in our head.
But on the other hand, I do agree with her about never worrying about the number of ebooks I have... They are not currently a part of my space problem. I can't pull them off the shelf and flip through them wondering when they will get the attention they deserve.
Thanks for your reactions, kaida46 and Cecilturtle

ROOT 22 completed. Gaslit Horror, a collection of short stories from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many of them aligned with my 26 Short Stories challenge, so that was a plus. (counter updated)
I am planning next month's ROOTs to align with the BFB challenge (which I am about to join), the BingoDog challenge, and May's TIOLI Challenges.

ROOT 23 completed. The Clue of the Dancing Puppet (Nancy Drew)
This is a very ROOT-y ROOT: A tome I didn't even know I had. I found this and some other Nancy Drews double stacked behind Hardy Boys books. I did not even remember owning them! I think some of my family found them when thrifting a few years ago. This book fits May's TIOLI challenge.

Hi, You're making great progress! I have read one Sharon McCrumb and have another sitting on my bookshelf, it was one from the Elizabeth Mac Pherson novels Lovely in Her Bones. The Ballad series sounds interesting though as well, have you read any others from this author?
26rhondak101book
>25 kaida46: Hi, I have read a lot of Sharyn McCrumb. I read several of her MacPherson novels back in the 1990s. I borrowed them from a friend and now I am not sure which ones I actually read. After finishing The Ballad of Tom Dooley, I decided that I needed to re-read those, so I am starting to look for some used copies.
I have always liked the Ballad series better, so I own most of them and have re-read them. The ones that I still have left to read are The Unquiet Grave, Prayers the Devil Answers, King's Mountain, and The Devil Amongst the Lawyers. I have also read St. Dale, but to like that one you either have to like NASCAR or The Canterbury Tales. (The Canterbury Tales for me.)
You don't have to read the Ballad series in order, but for the first 7 of them, it might be helpful to do so because of the recurring characters. Starting with Tom Dooley, her books are strictly historical, leaving out those modern, recurring characters. Also the reason that I have not rushed to read the last 4.
This may all be more than you want to know....

Thanks for the info! The other one sitting on the shelf is King's Mountain, so its from the Ballad series, (I just checked). I found them a few years ago when I used to haunt the book section of a local thrift store, but I have since banned myself from doing that because my bookshelves are bulging. I am now concentrating on reading what is already there, lol.

>21 rhondak101book: This sounds really interesting. We saw The Playboy of the Western World recently and enjoyed it very much. I think I would like to read about Synge's time on the Aran Islands and how it inspired this play.

>36 missizicks: I have found a ROOT, Ghost Light by Joseph O'Connor that's about Synge's relationship with an actress at the Abbey Theatre. It is moving up on my reading list. I hope you enjoy The Aran Islands.
