I just saw a post from Cherryh on Facebook that sounds like she's retiring from writing. She said she's fine in many ways but no longer able to control narrative due to numerous rounds of anesthetic.

I had no idea she was having health issues. Does anyone know more?

Its what I have been anxious about for a while. I said a few weeks ago that she had better hurry up and finish the Foreigner series since she is 84!.
One of my favourite authors.I see I have read 44 of her works, and physically own 38 of them.
A very under appreciated author IMO considering she has won 7 major awards (including 3 Hugos for best novel) and been nominated for no less than 55 others.

>3 Neil_Luvs_Books: she's been quite open on her facebook page. Had a cancer scare a while back, recovered ok, but ongoing medical issues for a a variety of complaints. https://www.facebook.com/cj.cherryh
Seems to be focus and ability to hold all the threads of a story together in her head prior to typing just isn't where she wants it to be.

I'm glad to know she is still with us. I think she is AMAZING!!! I'm hoarding a couple of last books, the russian ones and a pair that are sort of YAish, and one or two other stand-alones.

I'm cheered that evidently she is making a choice for how to live and is not entirely forced into a no-choices-available situation.
I read my first Cherryh novel in the last year and on the strength of that, definitely intend to pick up others.

I have read a number of her books and have most enjoyed her Company Wars Union-Alliance universe novels. One of my favourite books is Downbelow Station. I remember picking that up on a whim in the 80s and was quickly caught up in that universe. I wasn’t as taken with her Cyteen trilogy nor her Faded Sun trilogy. I enjoyed them, just not near as much as The Company Wars.

I got through all of the "Morgaine" books, nothing special. I didn't make it through "The Faded Sun" but I want to give it another chance, and I have a couple on my HN list to try. She hasn't ever really appealed to me. She's sort of like David Bowie, I can't deny her impact on the genre but I just don't think I'm her target. audience.
