What Does An Asterisk Mean?
Original topic subject: What does an asterisk mean?

Your inquisitive pest here. It's been a while since I've had a question! :)
I've noticed only recently that some topics on The Poetry Collective have a new asterisk in front of the Subject/Topic title. Is that because someone changed the title to include the asterisk? Does that have some unofficially agreed upon meaning? Or does it indicate something else?

I think someone just edited the Topic Title to add the asterisk... I edited this topic (to capitalize the title) and it didn't add the *.

>2 kristilabrie: Hm, any theories as to why they are doing that?

It seems odd. Are you the only one with Admin privileges for that group?

I think I might understand why now. By putting an asterisk only in front of our weekly poems, one can sort by Topic and those come up first. Not a bad idea! Only problem is the LT sort doesn't play nice on the second page, where there are stragglers of asterisked weekly poems, interjected willy nilly, and not on the first page where they should belong.

>6 elenchus: I'm pretty sure it's a clever idea by co admin @TonjaE and she's been doing that after the Topic is tapped out.

>7 DebiCates: FWIW, I think a pinned topic with just weekly poems links is easier to both maintain and find them

>8 SandraArdnas: I see the advantage within in The Poetry Collective group Talk if you elect to sort by Topic instead of Last Message date. Then, all the weekly poems filter together at the top of the list.
However, the sort falls apart on the second page for some reason, with straggler asterisk topics there. I'll turn in a bug report for that. No reason for it to do that.
To find all the poems, one can always look at the Roster, too. Message#1 https://www.librarything.com/topic/374036#8954197 I update that every Saturday, or sometimes Sunday.

>9 DebiCates: Ah, yes, I completely forgot the roster has all the links. Perhaps edit that title to indicate both weekly poem list AND roster.
If it sorts properly on the first page, it indeed sounds like a bug. A strange one, some voodoo happening when calculating the next page, haha

>10 SandraArdnas: Good idea. Would changeing it from
"The current roster of members to post poems"
to
"Past and present roster of members to post poems"
work?
I need to think about how long the Topic is getting too. But I am scared of the second page way to go. Would links to the original (in Talk messages) go to the original or go to the second page automatically, do you know?
