Should the Quick Facts (I believe that's part of the WORK page) reflect the date of FIRST publication or something else?
I ask because I've noticed a lot of my books have later dates in that field than my physical copy, and also later than the first Copyright listed in the book itself.

>1 DebiCates: Original publication date. If it's wrong, enter the correct one into CK and it will take over. Not sure how it's calculated when the CK OPD is not filled, but if it is, it takes precedence.

>2 SandraArdnas: I have never touched the work page or Common Knowledge, too scared to. But, in this case, I'm certain it would make LT's info more accurate so I might muster up the courage and do that.
What is CK OPD?
ETA:....Original Publication Date? I'm just guessing.

Next step is to figure out how I can get to that data to change it. Hm, copying to the Workbench didn't seem to be what I needed or expected.

If by this you mean, "how to get to the CK page for a work so that I can change the Original Publication Date", then: go to your copy of the work; view it in "Overview" (left hand nav bar); scroll down to CK.
If you mean something else ... "Neh-ver mind".

>5 DebiCates: Go to the work Page. Find the "Common Knowledge" section. If there is none yet added, it may be empty so not easy to spot sometimes.
It has a View style and a Edit style (it is a switch). Switch to Edit. Now you can see all available fields. Have fun! Carefully :)

PS: You can reorder the different modules on this page via the Customize link on the right (bottom on mobile) menu from any work (it then applies for all links). Or use https://www.librarything.com/work/34078024/reorder for example ;)

By the way, an answer to how the Quick Facts date is chosen -
It pulls the earliest Publication Date attached to the work's copies unless the Common Knowledge OPD is filled in.
That date (year, really) is used as a sorting option on the Author and Series pages.
With the old children's books I've been reading, I'll often see a list of blanks and then one or two with "2014" or similar, because that's when the public domain reprint publishers stuck an ebook on Amazon. :)

>3 DebiCates: No need to be scared of CK, it's probably the single most straightforward thing on LT, haha. The fields are self-explanatory and some have 'help info' when you click to edit the field, eg how to format dates and such. However, unless you've rearranged the modules on the work page, it's buried somewhere long scrolling down, no idea why. I put it immediately below my book info box, followed by tags, authors, series and work relationships. Everything else I use far more rarely, so it can sit at the bottom.
Also, you need to enable edit of CK in general by clicking that pencil first. If you prefer how it looks (more compact) outside the edit mode, I believe you have to click it again at the end because it sticks.
I fill OPD religiously, not just for my books, which is a given, but any that doesn't have it and I arrived at the work page in some way. I consider it the single most important piece of data after title and author, so I'm compelled to search for it and input it even if it's not something I'll ever read or have 😅 We cannot not know when it was originally published. On a serious note, newish books normally have the right year in quick facts anyway, but old ones where few people will have first editions can be off a lot.

Oh, how lovely. I just changed my first OPD. I even pulled out the book I have to make sure, checking the first copyright too. It had 2000 (a reprint) but was first published in 1988. Only 8 others have it in their library, but it still feels good to make it right.

>11 DebiCates: And now you know how to enter the original publication date CK, you can add first and last lines, easy. 😊
(Those are pretty safe from any quirks, and I tend to add them when I'm adding the book, since I have it open anyway.)

>13 keristars: LOL! I already put that book away. But if I have time, I'll do that for the next time.
I'm on a big project to fix my covers that were linked to Amazon but are not now since I changed that setting. I'm fixing those (and there are a lot of Amazon linked ones in my library, ugh). While doing that I happened to see the date business which has always bugged me. OPD can matter, especially in relationship to nonfiction works, but also in fiction works as it relates to social/economic/geopolitical context.
Also, I confess. I've got a new project for myself, I'm calling it "All My Years." I want to get serious about needing to Read What You Own but that's mighty overwhelming, even where to start or how to attack it methodically is overwhelming. So, I landed on the idea I would read a single book I own that was first published for every year I've been alive. It's already been fun figuring out which 67 books I'll read, starting with 1959. My All My Years TBR is now up to year 2001. It's taking me some time to decide, plus I'm fixing covers and OPDs along the way.

>13 keristars: And original language (sounds trivial but especially for rare books, sometimes translations’ language can take over due to the low number of copies). :)
