Anything by Dr. Seuss. My favorites are Scrambled Eggs Super and Horton Hatches the Egg.

My all time favorite is Just so Stories. I still have the copy I owned when I was about ten years old. Dr. Suess is a close second particularly The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.

I always loved (and still do) Free to Be You and Me by Marlo Thomas, The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf, Miss Nelson is Missing by Harry Allard, among others.

I loved the Little House books too - as a mother I really loved all the Alfie books by Shirley Hughes. The illustrations were great. Oh! Almost forgot! The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr is just wonderful.
