I don't know the book you're referring to offhand, but I'm betting someone over in Name that Book might! It's a group dedicated to answering just this sort of question, and there's loads of people there who love to figure out lost book titles. Good luck!

You would think it would be easy to find that group. From the search box for groups, "Name That Book", pulls up a list of 1,237 groups, which cannot be sorted alphabetically, and wherein the group searched for comes in at number 155. That is just ridiculous. Until they do something about the groups mess, what I have found that works best is: click the Groups tab, then go to the "Complete groups list" at the top right, then use your browser's find-on-this-page function to search for a specific interest.

Meantime, here's the group where you need to post this kind of a question: http://www.librarything.com/groups/namethatbook

Name that Book appears several times on the main Groups page; sorry I assumed it was easily spotted!

Anyway, to save you some trouble, I did some searching, and I'm wondering if the book you're thinking of is Sugar Mouse Cake by Gene Zion. Published by Scribner's in 1964, it is the tale of Tom, who dreams of becoming the king's chef, and Tina, a mouse. Tom bakes a cake for the queen, and Tina poses as one of two sugar mice on top of the cake. The queen of course wants to eat the cake, and I'm guessing that's when Tina tries to run away!

Unfortunately, it appears to be out of print, but here is a link to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sugar-Mouse-Cake-Gene-Zion/dp/0684133563

Could it be Diamon D and the Dreadful Dragon? See http://loganberrybooks.com/solved-d.html; you'll have to scroll down more than half the page.

I am looking for a book. All I can remember is a few details:

The book was a collection of ghost/horror stories. I am guessing this book was mid to late 99's, maybe very early 2000"s... The front cover was a sepia brown color, with a woman with long black hair hitchhiking. She was a ghost.. I recall one story in particular about a boy who becomes involved in dark things. His father walks downstairs to find his son sitting "stark naked and drinking a beer". His son then draws a door on his wall and people start coming through. There is a man with white hair, who grabs the father by the face. "... I knew who this man was, and he(it?) frightened me.."

Another story I remember is a group of people are singing in a choir and one singer gets a note wrong, so a woman next to him "... Nudged his ribs and hissed, "flat! Flat! Flat! Flat!"

That's all I can remember. I really enjoyed this book as a kid, because it always spooked me.

:)
