Since there's been some discussion and movement recently about improving the international sites, there are some pages that need a "translate this" option, and others that need to have some text added to the "translate this" page:

The new Member Giveaways page doesn't yet have an option to translate it, and it needs one, especially since it's open to so many countries, and so of potential interest to people using the international sites:
http://www.librarything.com/er/giveaway/list

The series pages have "translate this" options, but a good portion of the text in the right-hand column is not available to translate on those pages.
See for example this series: http://www.librarything.com/series/Chronicles+of+Narnia%3A+Publication+order
its French version: http://www.librarything.fr/series/Chronicles+of+Narnia%3A+Publication+order
and the translation page for the French version:
http://www.librarything.fr/translate.php?page=1231303651

The translation page for series needs to have additional boxes for translating:
- "Series Description"
- "Series?! / How do series work" and all the long instructions about series.
- "Helpers"
It's especially important that we be able to translate the instructions for series on that page, since a lot of people have started adding publishers' series in the international pages, and it needs to be possible to explain somewhere - in the site language - that this isn't what the field is for.

I'm sure there are many other bits of text that also need to be added to the translation pages, but these are the ones I've noticed or been told about recently.

P.S. Also, when translating bits of text that have html for hyperlinks, like the current Announcement on the home page, the hyperlink gets lost. So
Check out Member Giveaways!
becomes simply:
Allez voir "Member Giveaways" (en anglais)!
with no hyperlink, even if you try to put the html in for the hyperlink.

I also have issues with the translation options. I started this thread because the standard deviation explanation thing wasn't translated on the author page (in German) and the was no option to translate. Also, the debug test isn't translated, and again, no option to do so. Another thing is the inability to translate certain terms in the Details on work page. This thread has an example; all of the actual terms (original title, etc.) have been translated, but the actual values have not been translated.
Sigh.

Edited to fix links

I spent about a half-hour making the ER list page translatable. I'm open to hear more problems.

Thank you!!!

Since you asked...

There's another thread with a long list:
http://www.librarything.com/topic/16986

GirlfromIpanema wrote over there today that the "Connections" tab on the profile page is still untranslatable in German. See posts 169 and 178 on that thread. It should be translated by Netzwerk, but someone translated the link at the top to something else, and now it can't be changed.

Also, as I mentioned above, could you enable hyperlinks in the translated text? We'd like to be able to translate the Announcements, which often have links, but the hyperlink coding is getting dropped when text is translated.

More text that needs translation option, noted by Cathcartes here:

Connections page: http://www.librarything.com/connect
the text: "All activity by all connections"

Editing profile & settings: http://www.librarything.com/editprofile/contacts

all the links on the left on all the pages here (Profile, Account, Contacts, Display Styles, Sites/Apps, Miscellaneous)
also, on the "profile" part, the text "change username and password"

"Also on" Connections: http://www.librarything.com/alsoon.php

All the text on this page

Manual Entry: http://www.librarything.com/addnew.php

the text: "All items except Title are optional. See the help page for more information."

For some of these to get fixed, hyperlinks in translations will need to be enabled, though.

>6 rsterling:

I'm worried that it is too much of a spam-target. Think of the damage that could do.

What we should do is automatically convert them to the SUB1, SUB2 format with a sub-in. Non-trivial, but I was thinking I'd get into it.

Working on some of the others.

8. That occurred to me too. Still, if the international pages are to be functional, and they're to make use of all the features on LT, then there needs to be some way to do this.
Alternatively, the translators could send you guys the translations for those bits of text, and you could add in the hyperlink yourselves.

I did some playing, and upped it from 5 to 10 cheers. I can't find the specific quote. Is it there?

Not sure which problem you're talking about.

By the way, on the translation page for the personalized homepage now (e.g. http://www.librarything.fr/ ), a bunch of the text for translating that was there a little while ago is no longer there. It's basically just the headings, the tabs, the footer.

PS, I mean when you're signed in.

Hi Tim,

I'd like to translate all the stuff which explains what to write in the frames for the CK (the one which appears when I click on the pencil).

#10: 5 to 10 cheers: nice! I was now able to correct "mots-clé" to "mots-clés".

(I was Bibli1 in the previous message)

Tim, could we please get the text that explains what series are and aren't (on the right hand side of each series page) to be translatable?

Done. I made a LOT of that page translateable that wasn't—the nav too.

Up in 2 mins.
