Locus' recommended reading issue just came out and they posted their list about a week ago. One thing that stood out was the single Science Fiction title nestled amongst all the Fantasy in their "First Novels" category.
What are the great SF first novels that Locus missed last year? For that matter, regardless of category, what else did Locus overlook for kudos from 2008?

Ok some missing ones.
First novel -
Jaine Fenn's Principles Of Angels. I wouldn't call it great but it is SF and it is a first novel.
SF novels -
Christopher Evans's Omega (doesn't appear on touchstone list).
Liz Williams's Winterstrike (not her best book but maybe worthy of note)
Adam Roberts Yellow Blue Tibia (published earlier than Jones's Spirit which they include), his Swiftly was also a 2008 book.

Isn't KJ Parker's The Company a fantasy novel?
Other missing books...
SF
Stretto, L Timmel Duchamp
Kéthani, Eric Brown
Necropath, Eric Brown
Going Under, Justina Robson
Template, Matthew Hughes
Debatable Space, Philip Palmer
Collections
Magic Dirt, Sean Williams
(Gah. These touchstones are really irritating. First it assumes you mean the most popular title which contains one or more of the words you typed, rather than the exact title you typed. Then, if you edit the post, it resets them back to the popular titles it thought you meant. When are they going to get the stupid thing fixed? It's not rocket science...)

I meant Singularity's Ring when I said one SF title. I don't know how I missed The Gone-Away World; that looks fantastic.

Tor had a recent post on Adam Roberts which, combined with your recommend, has got me really jazzed about Yellow Blue Tibia. Roberts is completely new to me.
