I guess that some of you have been following my comments about wanting to Boycott Anne Rice over in the Anne Rice Fans Group. Well, What Ifer's I wanted to pose a hypothetical situation to everyone here. What If.... Anne Rice had originally started out writing her Christian Novels instead of Horror Novels and it was the Christian Novels that had made her famous and a household name then she decides that she will never write another Christian Novel again. And dedicate the rest of her life to only writing Horror Novels.
Here's the hypotheitical situation I'm talking about. Don't you all think that people would have a right to be Pissed Off and upset and want to Boycott her books because she chose to disregard the genre that made her a household name and famous Author in the first place? Wouldn't people feel that she owes it to her original fan base to continue writing the genre that made her famous in the first place? Why couldn't she try to appease both fans bases by saying she would continue writing her Christian Novels and Horror Novels too? She is only trying to appeal to her new fan base which I feel isn't right. The What If.... group here is a wonderful smart bunch of people and I await your responses to my hypothetical case I just presented to everyone. Am I so wrong to feel that she owes it to her original fan base to continue the Horror Novels she no longer wants to write?

I guess that depends on what you mean by 'boycott', doesn't it? I don't see me ever wanting to read her religious books (or anyone else's). Come to that, it's a long time since I decided I didn't want to read any of her books at all after The Vampire Lestat, simply because they weren't very good books. Not that I think it's very likely she'll lose much sleep about which of her books I read and which I don't. But what is all this about 'owing' things to her fans? Why shouldn't she write whatever the heck she likes? We don't have to buy them after all. I do find this theory that fans somehow 'own' the writers they choose to read a little worrying - even a little Misery-like. Don't we all 'boycott' books and authors we don't much fancy reading? That's fair enough, but to suggest that an author has committed some kind of crime because he or she doesn't choose to stick to the same old genre for the rest of their life is just a wee bit controlling, isn't it? (And, let's face it, those vampire books were getting awfully tired and same-y.) Sorry, Beatles - I'm not really accusing you of being Annie Wilkes in a Beatles haircut but come on - buy the books you want to read - don't buy the books you don't - it doesn't have to be some kind of personal crusade.

I really am a very nice, kind, friendly, fun loving, happy-go-lucky, extroverted person with
a great sense of humor and not some kind of an out-of-control, weird, fanatical, obsessed, crazed lunatic nut case right out of the Horror Movies even though sometimes it may sound that way in some of the things I post in my other LT Groups. Lestat was a very complex character with a lot of personal issues for an Immortal Vampire. He likes to still be around humans even though he despises what he has to do in order to survive which is why he started The Vampire Chronicles in the first place and decided to become a Rock 'N Roll God to millions of his adoring fans all over the World. You know he longs to become human again.
Lestat has no qualms in taking the lives of Drug Pushers, Mobsters, Evil people in general since he felt they were the scum of the Earth and deserved to die anyway. He was the Judge, Jury and Executioner of those kind of people he felt that Society would not miss or care about if anything happened to them.
BTW, Booksloth I do exactly what you suggested I do only buy the books I want to read and don't buy the books that I don't want to read. I think everyone does that anyway.
I guess I just have some very strong opinions about some things and I also happen to be very set in my ways on a lot of things especially when it comes to the kind of Music I listen to which of course is nothing after the 80s since the 80s was the last truly great decade of Music.
I hate all the crap that has come out in the 90s and 00's.
I am not a fan of any new Group or Musician that is from the 90s and 00's. Today's Rockers are so much different than the ones I grew up listening to in the 60s and 70s. The Music from the 90s and 00's are awful terrible pieces of nothing but noise. I'll take my Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The WHO, anyone from The British Invasion, MOTOWN, Folk Music, or basically any genre of Music from the 60s and 70s over today's so-called Music.
