Good News: Band camp is over!
Good News: The air in the band room was working!!!
Bad News: It was hot last week.
Bad News: I start school on Monday. The excitement is gone...
Good News: But I got a cute bag! :D

GN: Kerian is going to be back on soon! (She's been having computer troubles, but . . . well, I'll let her share her own good news next time she's on.)

GN: Spent yesterday with Mike, Holly and Zachary. We got to hear Mike play with his new band. Then Holly and Zach came home with us. We played a wonderful game with Zach's yellow balloon. He made it up. he let's go of the balloon (in the house) and I lift him up to get it. Over and over and over again.
BN: they have gone off to the shore this morning.
GN: We will join them in a week along with Bib and Mandy2 and Don.

BN: School tomorrow.

GN: Fun hike this morning with the hubby.
GN: Giants game now.

GN: Sunday is the best day of the week.

Good News: I'm feeling like things will be done in time...

GN: I've read this entire thread and am now caught up with HE.

BN: I've had a cold. 1/2 my girls have had it this week too (remember I'm teaching all girls this year). We've gone through an entire box of tissues.

GN: I'm having a chance to breath right now. It's been so crazy this first week & 1/2 of school. About another week or two and we'll have our routines down.

GN: 1st Scholastic book order of the year was $135! Amazing. This is the 3rd year in a row I've had this type of response from parents. I would have been happy with a $20 order. This means more books and other items for the classroom as well.

GN: Working on Finn's 1st birthday party ideas.

GN: I'm eating a chocolate chip cookie right now. Mmmm.

Hope your cold heals quickly kirby! Congrats on the amazing book orders though!

BN: I join in with everyone who starts school tomorrow and isn't happy about it. :o( Where did summer go?!?!?!
GN: Well technically, tomorrow doesn't count, since it's only this whole orientation thing. Still, I have to wake up early...

GN: I got a new job that will ultimately be a much better fit for me, both professionally and for our family.
BN: I have to return to my current/old job for four days after I return from maternity leave to wrap up loose ends, clean out my desk, etc. I'm sad I'll be leaving, but I know it's the right thing.
GN: I still have four weeks of maternity leave left to hang out with Rex!!!

#8: On the bright side, Monday is the farthest day of the week from the next Monday :P, Chelsea.

Not really good or bad news but could do with some fingers crossed. At some point today or tomorrow I am going to tell my boss about my recently diagnosed ME/CFS and also let him know that I've been told by my dr that I need to cut my hours at work in half.

Not that I can afford to do that, so I am also going to have to apply for benefits, which sounds like it is going to be a nightmare but its that or keep working and possibly damage my health a lot more. *sigh*

BN: I had a klutz day yesterday and this morning I have a stubbed toe, scalded fingers, bumpy head and several cuts to show for it.
GN: It's a new day, hopefully I slept off the klutz.

GN: We have fence posts in the ground! :D
BN: In the process, we managed to cut a cable line. Haven't had cable or internet since Saturday and I was feeling very left out of HE happenings!

#21 -- ME is Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, another name for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The term ME is more commonly used in Britain, CFS in America (not sure what they call it down under). I had a friend in college with CFS, so learned a bit about it there. Also, author Robin McKinley has ME/CFS, and I occasionally read her blog. Take care of yourself, lunacat!

Good news: Went to the ENT today, which apparently mean ears nose throat specialist and not tree shepherd.

Good news: If it is TMJ, it is a mild case.

Bad news: I have to schedule a visit to the dentist to rule out a premature occlusion. (Doctors seriously have to stop throwing technical names at me. No comprendo nada.) I consider going to the dentist kind of like going to confession at church. The longer I don't go, the more embarrassed I am about going. *blushing*

The ENT was...interesting. Asked me a lot of questions about what I do, what my husband does, how many children I have, how hard is it to homeschool, where do I live, is that why I homeschool...etc. And I'm sitting there trying desperately not to laugh at the poor man because I just found the whole situation so surreal.

Haha, well did he help resolve your problem at least JP? And I understand the whole technical name thing....whenever doctors throw that out at me I just look at them with my "Say whaaaaat?" expression. :o)

GN: Excited for high school tomorrow.

BN: I lost my job at the library becuase PA has no budget, which means the library receives no funding and has to be very conservative with the money it has. I'm not alone, however; roughly 20 some employees are losing their jobs.
GN/BN: Time for a new career path and time to start practicing for the GRE.

Bad News: After messing up The Chronicles of Narnia, Disney now will be messing up Spiderman, X-men, and everyone else in the Marvel Universe: Disney to acquire Marvel in $4 billion deal

GN: I will have some classes (hopefully) tomorrow and on Wednesday, so that means I will get more money to spend on my trip.

I've missed you all so much! Foggi is right that my computer was sinking worse. I couldn't do LT, check e-mail, go on my bank's site, or do school. I kept talking about LT to people who thought I was some strange book nerd while in withdraw. I even had five straight days of tension headaches until the day after...I brought home a laptop computer! Coincidence? Never! I've been kept very busy from school and work but this will make things a great deal easier to be here, something I'm really excited about. ***lots of hugs***

Bad news:
My kid sister broke her ankle Saturday night. The swelling's gone up again because she fell on it at school a couple of times today, though she doesn't seem to be in any more pain. She has a doctor appointment in the morning.

What Bib says is very true, Bella. I used to work in a mall in Virginia and one of my co-workers ended up driving to California with me (in her car); I had to move out there for college but she went just for the fun. And recently we reconnected on FaceBook after losing touch for 20 years or so.

Plus, working in a mall means there are plenty of places to eat. Not all good, mind you, but there's choice!

And two words: employee discount!

Also mall employee discounts. Some places offer discounts to all mall employees, particularly food court places.

I'd agree. Go back and look for a new job while you do so, but make sure you stick by your decision, look hard for a job you'll love, and when it comes to May...................quit. Even if you don't have anything else lined up.

Try to put a little money away each month so that you won't starve if you haven't found anything else.

BN: I'm not here very much. I feel bad about it, but can't handle too much at the moment, so am mostly on FB, where I can advertise flat, be there if anyone wants to know about it, etc. because...

BN: Still no-one to take the flat. Flat mate leaves in just over a week. It looks unlikely that I'll find anyone to take the room before I leave on my trip. Does this leave me responsible for meeting all the rent while I'm away?? Probably. Don't know for sure though, because we have heard nothing from the landlord, who conveniently lives in Hong Kong, and has not replied to any emails regarding the situation.

GN: My dad has helped me out hugely just in case I have to cover all the rent.
BN: I feel terribly guilty about it, even though it isn't my fault. That is supposed to be money for his retirement. Hmph.

Not a lot of good news right now, but I'm trying to stay positive.

GN/BN: Rex was unable to be circumcised in the hospital due to a potential problem with his urethra, so we have to see a pediatric urologist tomorrow. If there is a problem, he'll likely be facing surgery sometime in the future. If there isn't a problem, he'll likely be circumcised tomorrow...just before we leave town for the weekend. I'm not overly worried, but would appreciate any good thoughts, well wishes, prayers, etc. y'all care to send our way!

GN: it is morning! I love waking up to a new day of whatever needs to be done most urgently. Not what has to be done -- i.e. go to work -- but what I need to do. I love setting my own schedule every day. I blame it on my homeschooling background. ;)
GN: I learned a new sock technique yesterday. Usually I make socks from the cuff down on double-pointed needles. Yesterday I tackled toe up on one long circular needle. I'm getting the hang of it. Give me a week or so and I'll have a finished product. The fun thing about using a long circular needle is both socks are in progress at the same time instead of doing one sock and then starting the next.

GN: There's hardly anyone at work today, which means I'll have lots of internet time.
GN: Those of us who are here are shutting down an hour early today.
GN: I'm off to the shore tomorrow for my first real vacation in years!
GN: My entire family will also be there.
BN: This means you all will have to live Kasongo, Motumbo, Mandy2 and biblioholic29 free for the next few days. ;)

I was intrigued to discover that 55-65% of all boys in USA are circumcised. Its absolutely NOT a normal practice in the UK, and I certainly don't know of anyone who has either had their son done, or who has been themselves.

Not a criticism one way or the other, just a comment on different cultures/societies! So often we forget how different USA/UK are at times.

#90 Grkmwk- One of the nurses for Theo called it Circa-coma because Theo didn't even wake up for his! I'm not sure how you could sleep through that! 8)
Funny in a not funny way story:
They trimmed Cole without telling Rob and I so when I changed his diaper I was greeted by the bloody bandage and totally flipped. The nurse looked at his chart and realized that they were have supposed to have done it to the other boy. Cole was scheduled for the next day. Luckily we wanted it done but we were super angry that they made that kind of mix up.

#101 Luna- actually I think the realistic number is much higher here- more like 75 or 80%. I can only think of one guy I have known who hasn't had it done. Oh and there was one toddler boy where my mom worked when I was in high school. It's unusual enough here in Ohio where I'm at to cause comment if you run across a kid whose not. 8)

GN: New York (not the city) on Friday!! I'm visiting some family with my dad.

BN: Had to make a trip to the ER yesterday. Dad bumped into a work table at a friends and an ax fell on his leg.
GN: The cut was only about 1 1/2 inches long, but deep.
BN: Dad is a bleeder because of the medicine he has to take since he's had cancer in the past.
GN: Only 7 stitches and some pain. He's doing fine now.

GN: Today is Finn's 1st birthday!

All I saw was "ax fell on his leg." EEEKKK! Scary. I hope your dad heals well.

Good news: I have a wonderful night with co-workers on Saturday before one of them has to move away. It was the first time I got to hang out with more than one of them at a time outside of work.

Bad news: Yesterday my mom gave herself a small concussion, a knot on her head, and hasn't seen a doctor for it yet. She was going to go to the ER this morning but my 23-year-old sister called stranded hours away after a friend ditched her while camping.

Good/Bad news: My kid sister's leg feels better. Her strep throat is worse.

GN: I have lots of books.
BN: This is only bad when (1) I don't have enough room to put them like I want them, and (2) when some of them are missing. I am supposed to have 29 Seymour Simon books. I can only find 15 in my author study boxes.

ETA: I also thought I had lots of Chris Van Allsburg books, but apparently I only have 4. I guess I just check them all out from the library every January.

Kerian, I'm sending good wishes for your family to get well from all their things and stay out of trouble. And purple is an awesome color. If they wanted you to wear a specific color, they should have told you.

Re the visit: Everything went well. We are all just very tired from waking up early and walking our feet off. I'll wait till foggi and Espy get home and we'll do the highlights. :o)

GN: Rex was a great little traveler this weekend!
GN: My parents treated us to four meals this weekend, which left more $$$ for shopping!!
BN: I got a migraine yesterday and today's lingering effect is nausea. Not fun.

BN: They are not coming to hook up my internet until Thursday
GN: Having a BBQ with some friends so I brought my laptop and get to bounce off their wireless.

GN: Espy and I (and Sophie) are home safe and sound.

GN: We had a fantastic time in New York with JP and family!

GN: foggi can juggle three scarves now. I teach such useful skills. :o)

Notice that she says nothing of my prowess with the beanbag balls. I can juggle . . . erm, well, one of those! (Sometimes two.) But I'll practice, now that I know the basic theory.

Ah yes. Juggling Theory 101. It's a prerequisite for Advanced Bean Bag, Club Theory (known as Pin Theory on the west coast), and Basic Passing. It's all part of the degree program. Graduates end up working on the street begging for money.

I didn't get beanbags. I got softball-sized balls. With my small hands it was a challenge -- I am still rubbish with three but do okay with two.

This is because you didn't attend the college, you opted for one of the "community outreach" programs. School supplies are limited to what the instructor can carry in her backpack. Next time, come prepared! :o)

GN: My daughter is home from her quick trip to Las Vegas with her friend's family.

BN: She didn't have much fun.

GN: She was really happy to see us!

And even better news: We ordered our new flooring for our kitchen! We are getting wood laminate. They are coming tomorrow to measure. I can't wait to see how it looks when it's in!

Good News: I managed to fix the internet on the computer in my room! And it was really easy!

Bad News: It's 12:30 in the morning. I have a summary due for AP Lit first thing when I go to school at 7:15. And I have a major case of writer's block.

Bad News: I'm a procrastinator. But that's not really news...

GN: My apt is clean! All that is left to do is vacuum and mop...
GN: Only about a month left until my classes start! I can't wait!

GN: My parents came yesterday to help with the next part of the fence. We now have all the crossbars up and nearly half the slats! :)

GN: bib comes home today, so we should hear from her again soon.

I would just say that whilst happiness is important, perhaps in current economic times it would be sensible to stick at something for at least a little bit? Its just that I know from other people that having a lot of jobs that they started, only to leave very shortly afterwards, it went against them when applying for future posts as they were seen as unreliable.

More good news: I have much fewer hours at work next week, something I hate but it will let me have a moment to relax. Work and school loads together have been crazy busy.

Good: I made it through the first day of school!
Better: I am all ready for tomorrow, which is much better than last night at this time when my room was still in ruins.
Best: I earned a lot of extra money setting up the new laptops for teachers and now I have time to be on LT again!

Jim had his first class last night. Today he gave me a paper with questions on it, his homework! He wanted me to start on it for him! I said, "Who do you think I am ?Hermione Granger? Do your own homework!

I ended up reading him the questions and writing down his answers while he packed for his trip.

Luna: I haven't started and stopped any jobs recently. I am just picking and choosing. I have school and such ( mostly online though) but I am also one of the very few people applying to these positions who has rent and bills to pay. I mentioned at my last interview that I lived on my own and attemded school and the people who were there with me (it was a group interview) stared at me like I had 3 heads! They all still lived at home with their parents goodness did it make me feel old!

GN: Rex had his first round of shots at his two month checkup yesterday and he did very well. Much less crying than I'd anticipated.
GN: My mom, Rex and I went shopping yesterday afternoon to get new clothes for my mom, and I had a blast picking things out for her! She probably spent too much, but it's been a really long time since she treated herself to new nice clothes (as opposed to casual at-home clothes), and she got some great basic pieces that can be mixed and matched to make multiple outfits.
GN: The weather here today is overcast and cool...it really feels like fall is coming in! :o)

156: Lefty, Michigan law won't let schools start until after Labor Day. Tourism is a big industry in the state and it has helped up here in N. Michigan. I like it because August is usually a much better month weather-wise than June. Of course, the weather this week has been better than it has been all summer: cloudless skies, upper 70's, and no humidity! At least Monday we were off and Tuesday was a teacher work day where for lunch they rented a ferry and we all cruised around the lake for an hour.

However, I said they were welcome to come look around, so they came today. we got on really well, they've paid the deposit and are moving in next sunday. My birthday! ha!

Good news: I went bowling with co-workers tonight. One of them helped me because I sucked at it and for the first time in my life I beat everyone I played with at a sport. It was so cool! My score was 131, the second highest (the friend who helped me) being 115.

GN: To help with my sadness about leaving him, as well as to celebrate my "independence", I treated myself to breakfast out at my fav local coffee shop, then a mani-pedi at the salon around the corner from our house.
BN: The mother of a friend from h.s. was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
GN: Sept. is ovarian cancer awareness month, and one of the ways to raise awareness is through Teal Toes (http://www.tealtoes.org/), so at my pedi this morning, I had my toes painted teal. Not only are they quite fun to look at, I've already been able to share the reason for them being teal with another woman!

Wow, Grk. 7. You should really be proud of that because some people couldn't get a 7 if they tried. ;) Actually, bowling isn't my favorite activity so I've been known to be closer to 7 than 300 myself. (300 is a perfect, right?)

BN: My truck on my car is kind of broken. The trunk looks like it's opened, but its not completely loose so it's not like anyone could get into my car. But it just looks silly.

BN: I've had a headache for the last 6 days.
GN: I know it's sinus/allergy related.
BN: It also affects my ears (earaches/ear infections). I've never had this much trouble with allergies. Now I do get frequent ear infections, but not with all this other stuff. I'm coughing at random times, can't sleep, and my eyes are a little swollen. The sniffles are driving me crazy, because when I do try to blow nothing comes out. Okay, that may have been a little TMI.
GN: I do have nose spray the specialist gave me to help, and was told to take my regular OTC medicine along with it.
BN: The spray smells like really strong flowers which gives me a headache, or strengthens the one I already have.

Kirby, you have my sympathy. This probably isn't serious but the misery while it lasts is certainly acute.

Yes I have that sinus spray to I bet. I hate it. Isn't it awful when the cure is as bad as the problem itself?

Good News: Library Thing came back on so I could look up what books I want from the library.

GN: Today with the kids went well. The girl that I work with in the afternoon is very nice. And I have my old partner back during the day which is great.

BN: Tonight isn't going so well.

GN: We had a DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) day at school yesterday. Students earned tickets from their teachers for reading, being on task, passing AR test, etc. They redeemed their tickets w/ me in the library and earned prizes by playing Toss Across. I redeemed over 200 tickets! So that's the good news...kids were reading and having fun, and I got rid of a bunch of junky toys cluttering up the storage room.

BN: Because I was DOING SQUATS basically all day by retrieving the bean bags and resetting the game, today I hurt...my thighs are burning and I've taken megadoses of Advil. I really should consider going to the gym. I really would like a hot tub and a glass of wine, but that ain't gonna happen. At least the hot tub won't. LOL

More BN: we have some critter living in our attic, who has awakened me at 5:00am two days in a row. We figure it's either a possum or raccoon. It's pretty creepy, as it sounds exactly like a person walking around in my backyard. Time to call the parsonage committee and have them get a trap or something.

Good or Bad News: I have a very happy, drooly cat on my lap right now.

Good news: I had book club tonight and it was a LOT of fun. And we had peanut butter cheesecake, which may sound weird, but tasted like a Reese's peanut butter cup plus cream cheese and was super yummy.

Good/bad news: My son and I are doing our physical therapy exercises together, which is good because it will help in the long run. But right now, I am very sore.

BN: I am in agony with wisdom tooth pain. This morning I woke up with it at 4.45a.m.
GN: I have a dental appointment tomorrow.

In the meantime I have bought teething gel, industrial strength pain killers and a miniature of whisky. At lunch time I'll go and buy some clove oil. What I'd really like is a strong man with a pair of pliers.

A gel called 'oragel' that you can get from Boots (I guess elsewhere as well) is a fabulous product and numbs EVERYTHING. It comes in a yellow and black tube, its an overthecounter thing and is about £5 but it is a lifesaver. Tastes bad but not as bad as clove oil.

I swear by it and always have a tube in my handbag.

GN: I got back my first Calculus test today and I got an A+!!! I was 1 of 2 people that got a perfect score out all the calc classes =DD

GN: There's going to be a book sale here in October =D

GN: My friend is getting married in October too =)

GN: It's a beautiful day.

BN: My neighbor is working on his boat's engine next door. Since my windows are open, I can hear every single rev of the engine. It's very very loud.

GN: Today is Friday.
BN: I got up 5 minutes before I had to leave today.
GN: I took my shower last night before bed.

GN/Sad News: Mom and I were helping a friend who's husband passed away several months ago. Mom had helped her go through a few books (which she brought home about 30 Zoobooks for me) yesterday morning. Then she told me (last night) that they were going to throw away the rest of the books. Throw away books!?! What!?! So we went back together to go through them. I brought about 100 home (some for me, some for dad, and some for others that I know they would like). The rest (about 150-200) are in the back of my vehicle so I can take to the library. Some of the books are prints from 1870-1930, as well as many other different types of books. Most are war related, or how to projects, or other various literature. Our library constantly sales used books to raise money, with large sales during the Dogwood Festival in the spring.
Now I have to go through all the books at home and sort them for whoever I'm sending them to.

GN: The school day is now over. Wooo-whoooo!!!
GN: My classroom looks halfway decent, if you don't look at the stacks on my desk or at my closet. I'm surprised it survived today. The girls were cutting out flashcards, which usually leaves a lot of trash on the floor. Then they made posters for our high school football players (something our grade level does for homecoming every year) in small groups. My class made 4 posters, and most of the girls worked well together in small groups.

GN: I was home at 4:15 today!
Why is this good news when I'm usually off at 4? Because tomorrow is the big 5K walk/run fundraiser and I'm once again in charge of registration. Last year we were at the office until almost 6, packing and making sure we had everything. This year, I was so on top of things that the guy in charge of the whole walk/run felt comfortable ignoring the registration side of things and concentrating on his stuff so that we both finished by 4. Everyone else got to leave on time and the two of us went through a quick checklist before leaving too.
BN: Things have gone so smoothly, the pessimist in me is really worried about tomorrow.
GN: I'm choosing to let the optimist in me have the reins for the rest of the night!

GN/BN: My wisdom tooth is being extracted on Wednesday afternoon.

This is good news, obviously because I'm in agony. I went to the dentist and said I was having terrible trouble with it. She said "Yes, I can see that - your face is swollen". Well, she was right, it was. Anyway, she said it needed to come out, but I would have to go on antibiotics first to bring down the swelling and kill the infection. Then she referred me to a specialist wisdom-tooth-extraction surgery. So, Wednesday afternoon it is.
The bad news element is that I won't be able to work my evening shift, so I'll lose money. Also the managing Director at work is taking me out for a farewell lunch on Thursday. I've a feeling that might hurt....

Not with enough Vicoden in you!:)

I'll be going on my own, and it'll be done under local anaesthetic. I've only ever had teeth removed under general anaesthetic before. So that's my only anxiety. I think I'm worried I'll be able to hear wrenching noises....

LadyN: Here is what I tell all people having their wisdom teeth out. Hopefully they'll give you a little syringy thing and tell you to clean out your hole after you eat with warm salt water. DO IT! If they don't give that to you, rinse your mouth out like that anyway. My dentist did not tell me this and a piece of food got stuck in there and it healed over and my face swelled and I was away at school by then so I spent a panicky day hiding in my dorm room trying to find a dentist in the area who then give me the syringy thing. (It didn't hurt, it just wasn't cute.)

As for the dinner, I'm sure you can find something soft to eat. Perhaps a well cooked fish pie?

GN: I don't think it's flu, but I'm not positive.
GN: So far, Rex seems fine...I really hope he stays that way!

It has my classroom number, school name, and city on it. I'm using it for our new guided reading books. Each classroom got 120 different sets of books, with 10 books per set. I've been writing everything in each book when we opened them (as we've used them).

Good news: My step sister is having her baby! I think my father's crazy 'cause he thinks it'll be born by what would be 2am LT time. It's her first baby and she only got to the hospital at 6pm LT time. Then again, what do I know. Hopefully there will be a healthy mother and baby. She's expecting a boy.

Rule # 1 when it comes to babies being born, there are no rules. I was only in labor for 6 1/2 hours with Bib, but with the third, Mandy2, 22 hours. Not supposed to happen that way. But they don't read the books that parents-to-be are reading.

my first baby's labor was 36 hours, the second, 9 hrs, the third 10, the fourth nearly a week! (Once the doc broke the sack she came in five hours)

My first was 25 hours, my second was 12 hours, so by the third, I expected I would be done quickly. No such luck. She was my biggest baby and took 15 hours because I suddenly started remembering what "crowning" felt like. :oP

Good News: I made a dental appointment.

247 K- The drooly cat on my lap was Romeo, one of the the ones you haven't met. When he's very happy he purrs loudly and drools. The drooling itself wouldn't be too bad except that he keeps trying to rub your face with his, and he has the tendency to shake his head suddenly and spray drool everywhere. ;oP

Sad News: I have been dropped by a friend. I'm in shock. I won't go into complicated detail, but this is someone who, though I haven't known him long, I've invested a great deal of time, interest, support and affection in. And the way he dropped me was cowardly and underhand. And very, very sudden.

Good News: I am about to go on a life changing adventure. There must be some perspective. Also, I have a huge number of friends who I know operate a two-way friendship, unlike the one i seem to have just been cut out of. I must remember that they are worth gold, and ultimately my "ex"friend will be worse off in the long run.

Gosh I'm sorry LadyN, but he'll be sorrier later to have lost a good freind like you!

BN: Dad told me last night that a PO Box # had come up that I might be interested in. I called 1st thing this morning to check. Mom was going to take care of things for me if it was. After being put on hold they told me it wasn't available.

GN: Dad came by work today to have me fill out the application and give him ID for the same box. Apparently the lady I spoke to didn't really check on it. So I got the box!

BN: Now I have to change my address on everthing that normally comes to my folks box. It might take a while to figure that out since I don't really get tons of mail there.

GN: Because I got the box I wanted.

BN: I just missed an appointment I was supposed to go to today for work. Now I feel really dumb. I thought I had put it on my schedule, but obviously not. *sigh*

GN: I had a frequent buyer coupon that told me I got a free meal at Bajio.

BN: Turns out it was only good for chips and queso, not an actual meal.

PGN: It was still pretty tasty.

Good News: I'm back from the dentist. I feel no pain. I also don't feel my tongue, the roof of my mouth, my lips or my nose.

Good News: Considering how long it has been (hint: I haven't been there since catbastet was born) it wasn't too bad. She was understanding about my fears and said it looked like I took good care of my teeth.

Bad News: Two wisdom teeth removed. I am less wisdomous now.

(Hopefully) Good News: The teeth were pressing against my jawbone, so we're hoping that removing them will solve the TMJ problem, as well as my frequent headaches. Fingers crossed.

My dentist gave me a list of things to do and not do, along with her home number in case of an emergency.--Have I mentioned how much I like this dentist?--Anyway, I realized I didn't know what I should be eating during the first 24 hours. It says "no smoking, no alcohol, no spitting(!), no drinking through a straw, and no aspirin or aspirin products. After 24 hours you may rinse with warm salt water occasionally. Etc." Most of these I understood and I don't drink or smoke anyway. I took a Tylenol as I am getting less numb, but should I avoid eating for the rest of the day? Because I had no idea my day would finish like this, so I had only had breakfast and one and a half cups of coffee (far below my minimum requirement for wakefulness).

ETA: I should probably also mention that I tend to take longer than usual to stop bleeding. It's always fun giving blood donations as it takes less time for me to give a pint than to stop the flow afterward. It took a while for me to stop bleeding after the extractions.

*hugs* I had lots and lots of spaghettios after my wisdom teeth were removed. I just can't remember if it was heated or not. There was a time that I would eat them cold. One of my sisters says she lived off of soup right after her wisdom teeth were removed.
Hmm. What did they say about food temperature? If cold things are okay, there are containers of mashed frozen strawberries in the aisle with apple sauce in most grocery stores I've been to, even in NY.

Good news: Both my step sister and her newborn son are well and healthy.
Bad news: My sister's car wouldn't start this morning so we got to school late, thus missing a class.
Good news: Of my other classes today, one I made it to had a test that I completely bombed and did extra credit on as well.

And thanks everyone for your support, re the friend issue. He phoned this morning, not to become friends again, but to apologise for the way he went about things. I told him it was no longer my responsibility to make him feel better about the choices he makes. If he's cutting me out of his life, he's cutting me out of his life, so I'm clearly not the one to help him deal with the way he's treated me. I feel quite proud of myself for actually saying how I feel, rather than letting someone treat me like rubbish and get away with it. Yay me!!

So, moving on...

GN: The wisdom tooth has gone.

BN: There was a bit of a risk involved. I have weird teeth. Always have had. dentist took x-ray, which revealed that the roots of my teeth had curled backwards under the hinge of my jaw, like a backwards "c", and very close to an important nerve. He anticipated that the roots may snap off as he drew the tooth, and if that happened, he'd have to leave the broken bits in the gum because it was too dangerous to operate near that nerve.

GN: The tooth is gone.

BN: He thinks a bit of the root did break off.

GN: It shouldn't matter.

BN: OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! I have taken painkillers, which have helped a great deal, but still....OWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

It's wiped me out, so I'm having an early night.

JP, I'm also struggling with the no spitting! It's all I want to do because swallowing hurts so much!!

Then again I actually had a gym teacher, unsuccessfully, push really hard on my back to try to get me to bend close enough to the start line of the bend and stretch test at school. I failed, not just by not reaching Presidential standard but I failed in the negative because I couldn't reach my finger tips to the start line. *sigh* On the upside after having a kid I could probably reach the start line... oddly. 8)

#309: I hated those tests. I always did poorly on them. That and the "Chicken Fat" song, which I thought was demeaning. Frankly, I hated just about everything about Junior High School gym. MEM, you would be amazed at what a good yoga class can accomplish. I was having asthma problems (air quality the past two days has been horrible) and I guess the stress of the dental issues just made everything a little worse. I struggled and huffed through yoga, but driving home I could breathe deeper than I had all day.

Good news: For all intents and purposes, Wednesday is over. I'm going to curl up with a book.

Not really bad but funny bad news: Someone beat me at a fingerspelling race! That never happens. I found out a friend knows sign language so we thought we'd race.

GN: I finally made it through all the messages in this post! Holy cow I missed a lot! I'd reply to them but I'd be here forever and I'm tired.

BN: Had a computer upgrade malfunction at work Monday so had to work 13 hours Tues and 10 hours today to make up for the work we missed. My feet hurt!

GN: The Hary Potter exhibit was fun.

GN: I got to enjoy a mom's night out at a cooking class. Yummy food, and boy, did I enjoy it.

BN: I came home to find that apparently I am indispensable, because my son was whiny and miserable (he's 12!), my daughter had been depressed and cutting again, but was okay then, and no one had done their chores.

More BN: I can't take another mom's night out for a while. And I already need another one.

MEM; You don't have to be put out for wisdom tooth extraction, I was awake through mine.

BN: So I had a bit of a scare yesterday when I suddenly started seeing spots, they started small and got bigger and bigger until I couldn't see my computer screen. I ended up going home early and they eventually went away, but I'll be going to see the eye doctor sometime in the next week, I hope.

GN: Today is my nephew's 2nd birthday!

GN: Just got an appointment with an eye doctor, this will be my first one ever.

BN: I forgot to take Rex's bottles to preschool this AM.
GN: I keep two ready-made formula bottles in his diaper bag that he can have, so I didn't have to come all the way home to get him food.
BN: I have a feeling that this is only the start of my forgetfulness today...

BN: I have a slight headache coming on.
News: I'm presenting to parents in 30 minutes. I'm not sure how many will come, but I have 30 handouts. I'll be teaching a session called "What is Guided Reading?". The parents could be some of mine, but who knows. It's part of our Parents Make a Differnece Night for our entire school. Last year I had about 20 people show up (which is really awesome for a small break out session), but I was teaching about Word Study.

Other news: Tomorrow night starts my family retreat weekend. This is the one I have been getting teachers for. I still have one teacher who hasn't picked up her teaching materials. Busy, busy weekend coming up.

I am having hot flashes today. Woo menopause!

GN: I got a $50 from catering =) Plus $7.25/hour for like 5 hours. woooo

GN: new kitchen floor on Tuesday!

BN: we had to completely rearrange the house to get ready for them. My fridge is in the living room, but we still have to move the stove and kitchen table.

BN: both my husband and I are feeling miserable with colds/allergies, so it's no fun trying to get the house ready. I can work in short spurts, but then I'm so tired.

Kerian and Mindylou - nice about the work! I'm hoping I get some hours from work this week. If not, I was planning on doing the plasma donation, but if I'm sick, that won't work. Phooey!

BN: Things didn't go as planned.
GN: They never do, so I'm used to it.
GN: I got paid more money than I was expecting.

GN: Remember our water heater went out? It's fixed now.
BN: The floor in our family room is ruined. We just replaced it (along with 1/2 the floors in the house) 6 years ago because of water damage from the water heater. We are waiting a few weeks to see if it settles any. I don't think it's going to.

GN: I've had a really nice weekend -- a good mix of getting things done and having fun.

GN Auditions for the next KATS, Inc production are over. Record number of people auditioning, which is also bad news.

Super-GN: My best friend had her baby this morning. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The poor girl went into labour on Friday afternoon, and finally had an emergency c-section at 2.30 this morning. But Abigail Louise is now safely with us and is just perfect!!

BN: He's got a small cut on the inside of his back leg. Mom says it's probably a scratch, but I think it's too big for that. I noticed it last night when i was giving him a shower. I put some medicine on it, and will put some more on it tonight.

GN: My class is up to 129 votes in the Limeades for Learning contest. Today is the last day to vote. I wonder how many Sonic drinks I can feasibly drink in one day. I've already had one.

GN: So far, today is much better than the last two days -- of course, all I've done is sleep in, eat breakfast, and start a load of laundry.

BN: I got a whole bunch of math homework for the 2 weeks I'm gonna miss.

BN: One of my friend's is getting married October 10th, but unfortunately at work we already have 3 weddings and some festival thing to sell food at. Guess who is going to have to sell food at the festival thing then dash over to a wedding (not my friend's unfortunately). Oh yes. Me. Sometimes I wish I wasn't such a good worker. lol

GN: I got a compliment kind of from my boss. Because I was the "strongest on the floor tonight" (since I'm a waitress) so I was essentially the best server of the night. So I was in charge of making sure the dining room was in order... which means I was practically dining room manager. Which also means I was busy.

BN: I have again procrastinated beyond all reason on the work I have.
GN: Tomorrow is another day (sorry; that's all I've got!).

Where do I start? I'll start with the good news. The good news is, my kid sister, her classmates, teachers, etc are all fine. The bad news was that there was a lock down at her school today. It was a pretty scary day. I still feel antsy. You can read this or read below if you want to know about it.

Some teen gang members were reported to be acting up in the apartments next door to the high school, and when police showed up, three or four jumped the fence and made a run for cover at the high school. Of the ones who didn't get away, one had a gun. During the lock down kids weren't supposed to use their phones, but many like my kid sister did. Police were worried about kids contacting parents, possibly scaring them with rumors. However, when we saw the news say at 12:20pm that all parents had been notified by the school...we hadn't been. There were helicopters, a SWAT team, etc, and as the school and classrooms were deemed safe, one room of people were let out at a time and lead to the gym. The kids were organized there by grade. Luckily my sister didn't fall, because it goes a few floors up with a great opened space, and she was knocked over backwards over a weak rail a few times. It's something that angers me, but that I don't focus on because today could certainly have been so entirely very much worse. Twenty kids were released out at a time to waiting parents. I had to work so I was there when around 4pm my mom called to say she had my sister and was taking her home.

Good news aside from my sister's safety:
While waiting for news of the high school's status / work to start, I was able to buy a peacoat I'd been staring at for two weeks too broke to buy. It's very warm and was only $20 so I'm happy with it. I haven't had a coat this thick since...well, I don't have memory of one this thick. My "coat" for the last four winters had been thin a spring jacket.

BN: I have a million posts to read.
GN: It's because I've been working long hours for the last few weeks so I can have a 4 day weekend.

Yes, we had excellent security. When my nephew was living with us he removed the bottom security bar from our bathroom window because he kept on forgetting his key. He did however point out that the space wasn't big enough for Andrew or me to fit through so it wasn't a problem. *face palm*

Ahhh Prom dress shopping! Tell us Mindy are you going for a romantic, southern Belle style? or a slinky sexy vamp style? Or a victorian innocent look? My Mom made my prom dress. and good daughter that I was I didn't complain that the neckline was too high, the skirt too straight and the puffed sleeves too childish for my taste. I wanted a full skirted off the shoulder, Scarlett Ohara kinda thing. But my Mom was sick all my life and I'd been conditioned not to upset her so I tried very hard not too. I figured if she was going to sit up nights and make me a dress then I had better damn well appreciate it!

GN: I returned to work this past week, and Rex made a great transition.
GN: My short week at my old job was good, and I start my new job on Monday!

Mindy's school has prom in the fall because they used to have a fall and spring prom but boys were in charge of spring prom and girls were in charge of fall prom. After while, the boys got lazy and stopped getting spring prom together. For some reason, the school never switched the fall one to spring.

Polly, it was good of you to appreciate your dress even if you weren't crazy about it. Have you ever gotten your Scarlett O'Hara dress?

GN: I got my dress =D It's lime green and it has 2 gathers on opposite sides. It's kind of mermaid style too but it's not too extreme. It also has a train (btw Missy I wanted to put a bustle on it so it wouldn't drag all night. Mind helping me with that?) I'll post a picture as soon as I can.

Good news: My fake aunt's older son got married last night. It was wonderful to get to see him, my fake aunt, and everyone else again. I saw all of their extended family on a regular basis when I was little and it was like seeing family that I hadn't seen in a very long time. They're very nice people.

Yes. In my fake family, my grandparents actually hug me.

When I was little, my mom rented a house with one of her sisters, with five of us kids between them. After my aunt and cousins moved out, my mom's best friend and her sons moved in. I was the age of your youngest then, young enough that it made it seem like a new aunt and cousins were taking the place in our home of others. Their family's had an ongoing joke that someone in their family should marry me.

Marry them? But that would be like...like marrying a cousin!

Exactly. That's what I consider them and it's why my fake aunt's sons always say eww. It's just that in the generation previous mine, their family had mostly sons while my family had only daughters in that generation. Some of them dated each other, back before our families were so close. See why they think it would be funny? ;)

Nervous News: I had a parent request a conference this afternoon (in about 30 minutes). I have no idea what it is for.

It's okay! Nothing bad, just a few concerns about lunch and Word Study (spelling).

I was rooting for the Twins if only because their closer is still a Giant in my fantasy life. (WORST TRADE IN THE HISTORY OF EVER!!!) Um, sorry.

Now that they're playing the Yankees, my sympathies have switched. Go Bombers!

BN: I sitting in a training being "taught" how to use a program I've been using for over a year because a new funding source is requiring it.
BN: The other people in the class are computer illiterate and it's "hands on" which means the instructor tells us to click on something and then has to run around the room showing people having to do it.
BN: We've been here for over an hour and we're still entering the client.
GN: I have internet access, so at least I can hang out with you guys during the insanely long pauses.

Sample dialogue: "Now we push this button in the far upper right corner, which expands the screen so you can see all the information." Seriously.

Good News: A couple of days ago, I was able to go biking with my dad.

Bad News: I had a bit of a bike accident. I was using JP's bike, which I'm not really used to. My old bike was really easy to handle, but I outgrew it. The brakes on JP's bike are kind of... odd. I was really nervous using them. The bike trail I was on has some really steep hills, and one in particular is rather big, and our family has had problems with it in the past. You can probably see where I'm going with this. I started going down the hill, and I could tell that I was going too fast. I went on to the grass, but then managed to steer myself back onto the path. At the end of the path it turns to the left, but I couldn't get the bike to turn because I was still going too fast. At the end of the path is a good-sized tree. And I was heading straight for it. As I struggled with the bike, a bunch of thoughts went through my head. Things like:
"Oh no! A tree!"
"I'd better not hit it. That would really hurt!"
"I hope I don't hit my face. I have the braces to think about."
Finally, just before I could slam into the tree, I managed to twist the bike to the left, and barely missed it. But by turning the bike suddenly, I also fell over with it, and got dirt and scrapes all over on my left side. My dad was ahead of me, and hadn't realized what happened, because I didn't scream or anything (although, of course, if I had screamed, he probably would have crashed too!), so it took a couple of minutes before he figured something had happened, and came back. By then, I had already gotten up and started heading towards him. Luckily, nothing got twisted or broken, just scratched and sore (I was wearing a helmet). I was a little wobbly and tired, but we were able to get home without anymore accidents. I'm doing much better now, I'm just still kind of sore.

Good News: I didn't hit the tree!!! I'm very proud of that. :)

Altogether, the experience was kind of funny, in a painful way! ;)

Bad news: I tried to back out of a shift for last night last week but they wouldn't let me. Needless to say, I had to go to a midterm today on only three hours of sleep. I really haven't been feeling well, either.

Good news: I came home early almost straight after the midterm, which for as bad as I feel makes me feel even mentally so much better. The kitties have been keeping me company and sleeping curled up next to me, offering their sweet comfort.

Great news: I got two papers back today, one for geography and one for history. They're wonderful! I'm ecstatic. Just too tired to quite feel it as much as I should be yet. :)

Ah, and more good news!
My kid sister's doctor says she may stop wearing her removable walking cast! I'm kind of freaked out about it, but what can I say. I worry too much by nature. She's thrilled.

News: I might be crazy, but I'm sort of volunteering to do two fundraisers this fall. One for French (my brother's classes -- he teaches) and another for varsity girls basketball. For French I'll be making fudge. For basketball, dinner rolls. It started because the basketball coach was talking about selling rolls from this restaurant as their fundraiser and my husband said he never buys fundraiser food because his wife can make it better. We all laughed but then Jane (the coach) said she should have me make their rolls. I said why not and now here we go! Then Mike was looking for a fundraiser and I offered my services like any good sister would. I figured what's one more fundraiser? Should be fun! Or at least interesting.

GN: We finally got living room furniture! :D Midwest HEers, remember the college dorm room look of the living room? No more! It is now a proper living room. We got a sectional couch because Jon is tall and likes the length of sectionals and a regular couch. Since we were already shopping, we threw in a coffee table too. We got it all set up yesterday afternoon and it is fabulous. I love being in there now. :D

BN: I turned on the heater yesterday to make sure it would work in a few weeks when we really need it and it seems to have an issue. The pilot comes on, but it doesn't light the rest of the furnace unless I blow on it a little. I'm hoping it's just the sensor that tells the furnace the pilot is indeed lit because if it is, I can fix it. If not, I have no idea and will have to call someone.

462, Post pictures lefty! It is like you have a whole new house! I will just have to come down for the final movie in 2011 and see the place. Unfortunately I really don't think I can make it a year from now. Weekends are too short during the school year.
