More material to follow. It was supposed to be done today, but my travails were many. Goats revolted. The littlest Welsh terrorist (Ceilidh) decided to embrace Sneaky Pee as her current life philosophy. Guests are arriving whose departure day is unknown - a bad sign. I haven't started my winter cold frames. I did the Great Closet Switch today in which spring/summer clothes were transferred to two haunted chests, and the contents of the haunted chests were transferred to the closet. Ack, ack, ack.

And damn it. I misspelled Clarice Lispector's name in the topic line.

Assign the guests the cold frame duty and you'll solve two problems in one stroke.

What sort of goats? (A former goat herd here)

I haven't started the book yet - but I did open it up and the dedication is already impressing me. I have high hopes.

As a starting point in the discussion - I wonder how you settled on "Being C.L." as the topic title?

Goats always revolt. Ours never did resign themselves to being milked.

There are only two copies of The Hour of the Star in my coop library system and they're both checked out. Alright, 'fess up. Who has them? Guess I may have to check out Amazon. Off to complete my own Great Closet Switch...

I guess we should move this to the new, correctly spelled topic. Nice first post urania!

The real Clarice Lispector thread has moved here. Henceforth this thread will be dedicated to the discussion of goats.

"It's I! The big Billy Goat Gruff ," said the billy goat, who had an ugly hoarse voice of his own.

"Now I 'm coming to gobble you up," roared the troll.

Well, come along! I've got two spears,
And I'll poke your eyeballs out at your ears;
I've got besides two curling-stones,
And I'll crush you to bits, body and bones.

That was what the big billy goat said. And then he flew at the troll, and poked his eyes out with his horns, and crushed him to bits, body and bones, and tossed him out into the cascade, and after that he went up to the hillside.

So what goat literature is there, besides Giles Goat Boy?

Oh how I love LT. The tagmash page for "fiction+goats" lists 140 works:
http://www.librarything.com/tag/fiction%2C+goats

"Non-fiction+goats" turns up 69 works (but 24 of those are on the "fiction+goats" list).

Medellia, see, this is what makes LT truly different than other sites.

Would you eat them on a moat?

Don't you mean in a moat? Or mayhap boat?

23absurdeist
Oct 30, 2009, 12:14 pm

I would eat them afloat on a moat.

On toast!

I would eat them with Clarice.

Well, both I and the sacred geese,
trusting you would give us the keys,
would go all the way to Nice,
in search of a little damned peace,

and GOBBLE THEM ALL, AS WELL AS THE MEECE.

Is anyone going to read the "Real" Clarice Lispector thread. or do I get to talk to myself for a month? Perhaps I will write a short, short story in the style of Clarice Lispector for the thread. Hmmm . . . I think it will involve goats and. . . .

Is anyone going to read the "Real" Clarice Lispector thread.
*hangs head* Yes, ma'am. ;) I picked up my copy a few days ago. B-but, I've been busy, and I was finishing other books, and um, the first day of November is today and I was afraid to start it early--it's bad luck, you know--and, and...

My copy arrives tomorrow, #1. I've read every word so far. I'm as shocked as anyone over the interest in this goat thread.

I'm planning on reading it, really, urania, but haven't begun yet.

In reading Herta Muller's Nadirs, today, however, I noted that she writes about goats.

Mine is on hold at the library. I won't be able to pick it up until tomorrow. Once I start reading I promise to post in the real thread!
