Hello everyone. I am a senior in highschool, and am going to college for psychology.

I am very very interested in books that make you think and question humans, our actions, and the way we think.

I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for me to read?

Thank you :D

Depends on what you're looking for? Pop psych? Fiction? Straight non-fiction?

Fiction and non fiction mostly.

Alan Dean Foster's The Damned series - Call to Arms, A False Mirror and The Spoils of War - looks closely at how warlike we are.

I really like the way he looks at humans from the outside.

Ah, there are many, if I look at my library - don't know how many are very deep:
The Handmaid's Tale
The White Tiger
Count of Monte Cristo
Catch-22
Cockpit
The Loony-Bin Trip
The Reader

I think there are more, but I don't remember them very well, so I didn't list them.

Drink deeply -- but don't forget to read comedy once in a while to take a break.

Death in Venice by Thomas Mann- also could be seen as a commentary about the state of decay in Europe but I prefer to see it as a man and his motivations.

Soul Mountain by Xingjian Gao
The Emigrants by Sebald
Both are more modern then I usually read but both were amazing. Some people might find them slow if you aren't into that style.

Copenhagen
Is a play, I've never seen it preformed but I loved reading it. About the complexity of people and their motivations.

The Divine Comedy is probably the best psychological text that I have ever come across.

These are all books I read in my last year of high school/first year of university and all were challenging but all were worthwhile. Without specifically knowing what you like to read that is the best I can come up with.

I'd also like to second Crime and Punishment and add Notes from the Underground also by Dostoyevski.

I support Dostoyevski, other the titles already mentioned I'd add The Brothers Karamazov.S Freud deemed it the greatest novel about oedipus complex,
Besides I suggest also, anything by Graham Greene and Georges Simenon, especially the novels, not the Maigret serie

Anything by Henry James will take you deep into the psychology and consciousness of the characters.
