Fiction: The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
Yes, it's a reread, but if I didn't let myself count it I would have had three vying for its place, so I'll just go with the definite winner. ;-)
Nonfiction:I read none this month This Book is Overdue by Marilyn Johnson - forgot this one - I gave it four stars, but it's the only nonfiction I read this month (and yes, I double checked that before hitting submit a second time!).

Nonfiction: Don't sleep, there are snakes by Daniel Everett
(Though I think if you ask me again in a couple of months, I'll probably remember my now-2nd-place The hanging of Thomas Jeremiah as the better book. I'll just mention 'em both since I didn't have a best nonfiction last month.)

#20: Zoe, I had not planned on doing a quarterly thread since we already have threads for each month of the quarter. What do you think?
28_Zoe_
My general philosophy is "the more, the merrier" ;). And I keep seeing people here saying that they read either too many good books or not enough in a given month, so doing, say, top 5 over a three-month period might help even things out.
29scarpettajunkie
Two favorite fiction Heresy by Stephanie Merritt and Rooms by James L. Rubart. Everyone should read these. I could find nothing to hate in either one of these.
30Citizenjoyce
Fiction: The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. I'm sure this will be one of my best books of the year.

#27, 28, There are top reads of the quarter threads in several other groups such as What Are You Reading, but I would be happy to add my favorites here too if we had a quarterly thread.

Heresy had me scratching my head, shrugging my shoulders, slamming the book to calm my racing heartbeat, and banging the book hard against the furniture going "Take THAT you bad guys!". To me books that elicit such sharp responses are winners as we are living along with the book.
