"Curtain Lectures delivered in the course of Thirty Years by Mrs. Margaret Caudle, and suffered by Job, her Husband." The curtain refers to curtains hanging around the bed as Mrs Caudle nags and scolds her downtrodden husband. This is a satirical work from 1846 by Douglas William Jerrold, published in Punch magazine. It is public domain and available on Project Gutenberg and other sites. It is hysterical.

Mrs. Caudle's Curtain Lectures sounds hysterical. My thanks to you both for the recommendations. :)

Ooh, thanks for the other Victorian rec. I was hoping to find some other funny works from that period. You all know The Diary of a Nobody, right?

Thanks, vidalia11 and Seajack, for the recommendations. Both books sound wonderful, and I've added them my looooong list of books to look out for. The Diary of a Nobody has always been a favourite!

If you like funny Victorians, it could be worth having a look at some of Thackeray's minor works, e.g. The Memoirs of C.J. Yellowplush. Very funny if the deliberate bad spelling doesn't irritate you too much. Of course, with Thackeray a lot of the fun is in having drawings and text from the same author.
