Editing to fix touchstones.
Easier said than done. I've done a group of them twice and... nothing.

Sorry about the incomplete touchstones. I give up! They're there when I edit, but not when I save.

This is the first time ever that I've kept track book by book, and I find it's been a real incentive. I'm reading more than I have in years and enjoying it a lot.

Look at you! I'd say that you have found your true home here, and you are most welcome. You put me to shame with so many wonderful books!!!! You are also the second person to mention Farley Mowat this week.....Never Cry Wolf!!

I think I have a copy of Never Cry Wolf, but haven't read it yet. High Latitudes is the first of Farley Mowat's books I've read. Took me a while to get into it, but it's one of those that grows on you the farther into it you get.

Thanks for the welcome. ;-)

I see you gave The Archivist only 1 1/2 stars. I hope your next read is much better than that!

It is! I'm reading The Twelve Little Cakes: Memoirs of a Prague Childhood by Dominika Dery. I almost gave up on The Archivist, but occasionally there'd be a scene that pulled me back in, and I wanted to see how it ended. Unexpectedly, as it turns out, but a good ending.

I will be interested in seeing what you think of the Dery book when you have finished with it.

I see you've posted a review of Twelve Little Cakes - I looked at the home page for more information eg period when it was set. Although you've given a critical review, it still sounds very interesting.

Yes, Twelve Little Cakes was interesting. But I don't think my review was overly critical. I stated what I liked about the book and what I didn't, and rated it four stars out of five.
It got me to thinking of other books & topics I'd like to read about, and that's never a bad thing.

#23: To War with Whitaker looks very good. Did you like it?

25y2pk
Sep 25, 2010, 11:57 am

>23 y2pk:. Yes, I did. Very much. Hermione Ranfurly worked as a secretary for a series of British generals stationed in North Africa (Cairo, Tripoli, etc.) during World War II. For much of the same time, her husband was a prisoner of war in Italy. The book is her diary (edited for length) for the years 1939 to 1945, an interesting cross of her day-to-day life and world events.

I need to post a review, because it's fascinating reading.
