Thanks for the heads up on Lost Souls, Kath ... one less book to add to my obese wish list. But then again, I'm not a Koontz fan so I would probably have kept away from it anyway. Still, it's nice to not have to wonder.

Caroline,
You are the go-to person for food & beverages!
I should have known you would be able to identify!
I'm thinking it will make you crazy now till you make one.

Perhaps The Chocolate Bar s/b the next party site for LT -
Is your birthday coming up Bonnie?

Where would I ever get one of these in Maine?

Edited to spell CAROLINE's name correctly. Many apologies!

Sep 14, 2010, 3:40 pm

Claudia - no worries ... I'm so used to people spelling my name in various ways. Doesn't bother me in the least. Of course if it's spelled in a variation where I can't tell that it's my name, I'll just assume you were speaking with someone else. :-)

Chocolate martinis are really easy to make. You just need a good dark chocolate to thickly coat the inside of the martini glass with and then freeze it before you pour the chocolate liquor and vodka in. The glass coating, that's what your picture is missing. But they had a chocolate stick so they're partially forgiven.

Oh Katthhhhh....

37mckait
Sep 14, 2010, 4:47 pm

36 you would not be laughing missy, if one flew at you!!!

38richardderus
Sep 14, 2010, 5:53 pm

A "martini" is one thing, and one thing only: Gin, dry vermouth, and ice strained into a tall, wide glass, and adorned with several stuffed olives. Substitute onions for olives, one has a gibson.

Substitute vodka for gin, and you need to come up with a new name for it 'cause it ain't no martini no more. Put *shudder* flavours into it and I don't even know what, beyond *urp*, to say about it.

39mckait
Sep 14, 2010, 6:18 pm

mmmmmm olives

Yeah.. I am not a fan of vodka..
And to be honest, not a fan of sweet drinks.
I want to know that I am drinking.
I am starting to sound like a lush...

40brenzi
Sep 14, 2010, 7:14 pm

Apparently Richard has never seen the lengthy and intricately detailed lists of luscious martinis available at your run of the mill martini bar. Appletini---now there's my favorite.

A TWILIGHT ZONE MOMENT....i was just looking through Nigella Express and found her recipe for a Green Apple Martini:

the picture on the link is icky...looks like day-old green Kool-AID.....The picture in the book is much more better...i'll try to find one of Those

But I'm with Richard....gin & vermouth..ice & olives

Since I can't drink Hard Liquor any more I just dream...alas!

Maybe we ought to start an LT Bar???? with a decent pool table....a vintage jukebox...and book-lined shelves...

For "Snuggery" fans:

snuggery

I remember reading the term in British novels. I always thought The Snuggery was a room "set aside" for the Ladies...who didn't particularly wish to be seen tippling...a quiet, sedate place in which to imbibe at leisure..and still keep one's couth...Cor!

;-}

56Carmenere
Sep 15, 2010, 11:25 am

Snuggery! Wow, I did not know such places had a name. In that case, my very first snuggery was a place in a corner between my mom's dining room china cabinet and the dining room wall. It was probably 3' x 3' and I would go there when I was little whenever I wanted to get lost in a good book. I have yet to find a good snuggery since. Perhaps the best snuggeries are found by instinct. *Off to let my instinct search for a good snuggery in my house*

1 aide thrown across the room, bounced off a sink and sent to hospital.
She will recover.
The student who did it? well over 6 ft and 200 pounds.

I don't care what anyone says, The Spaghetti Shop has the absolute best garlic bread ever. I've tried lots of garlic breads and garlic sticks and garlic toasts...but theirs is amazing. Even if it's cheap fast food crap. :)

Marie will be just fine thanks.. lol
I actually have a family member who is a massage therapist..
have to go to him one day..
he owes me one.

I know stasia.. my mind keeps going..
work is getting to me. I guess I should say Marcia mostly is getting to me..

Yesterday I was busy cleaning up after snack and getting ready to take the kids out to buses to go home. One child was in a chair.. tipped it over and was lying sideways on the floor behind marcia's ankles. Marcia.. did not notice. This is the thing. She will notice if I don't move the name tag when I change a diaper..
and will bring it to my attention. But yesterday this.. I called out to her .. she looked at me as if she was in a stupor ..Wha?? I ran across the room and picked her up but couldn't untangle her from the chair.. and marci's stood looking down at me until I yelled help me!

a couple of weeks ago 5 adults were chit chatting.. same time of day -ish.. I was changing diapers.. it was right after snack. One of the kids got out of his chair.. pened up the under sink cabinet.. got out my purse and started to take things out. Five adults.. all chatting away. We have a lock for there but it wasn't on as we were cleaning up .. supposedly.

There is more.. but..

IT IS SATURDAY !!! yay!

and I have a pot of soup on to cook.. chicken this time, because that is what Cory likes. Cory.. did not come back last night, so I am assuming he is alive and well on someones sofa.

green beans maybe.. I have nothing fresh..

PINEAPPLE STUFFING
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 can crushed pineapple (20 oz) drained
5 slices white bread, crumbled

Melt butter, beat in sugar and eggs
Add pineapple & bread.

I add a little more bread and some of the pineapple juice.

Bake in buttered casserole. 45 min @ 350

Thank you for the chipmunks. .. and the smile..
It is so true, nothing like Autum, for sure. It is my favorite season.

rd i have read Stephen Lawhead's Pendragon Cycle.. and hated it. Except for the last book, which I liked.

Of course that one is completely irresistible..

I may make it my last purchase.

I lost it today and told Marcia off. She said she did not like my attitude.
Then I was refused an appt with the director again and really got ticked off.
Long story short.. there is a meeting in the morning with the freaking director and Marcia. I will most likely air my grievances right in front of her since I am being denied the opportunity to air them without her. It is in the employee handbook that I have the right. Others have done it. Not me because..
???

It has been hellish there for me since last year when "my team" gathered round me and told me that there was something wrong with me .. No one should just want to go home and be with their pets and books and computer.
They said I needed real interests like they had, and I should go out more. What I do is not normal. Trust me when I tell you that it has been hard for me to since then.. no matter what I say I feel judged. I was looking at a retreat
( reiki) website online.. and said out loud that I would love to go there.. Barb snidely said "No you wouldn't you won't leave your house"

It is not comfortable for me on that team.
It is turning me into a hateful person.
An unhappy one.

Maybe I will get lucky and they will let me go..

I will let you know how tomorrow goes.
If it were not for the blasted car I would have walked away long ago.. but
I have to pay for the car.
I knew that I was in a bad way when I went to the store before work this morning to get milk ( and lottery tickets) and was so stressed about having to go to work that I didn't realize the clerk had spoken to me. She got my attention and laughed at me being still asleep.

good idea roni.. Actually.. I did that already.. last week. When I requested some of the directors time. The truth is... I would be relieved if they let me go.
What Bonnie said is right....

Things have been going downhill since last october when I got beat up .
Then I got the flu. Then I was sick all winter with asthmatic bronchitis.
I was told I was being sullen. I didn't have enough air to breathe and talk too.
Then the "intervention" I was told that they just want me to be happy. WTH??
*shaking head* it would be a way out..

#156 I recognize those chipmunks! They're the ones in my yard storing the prized nuts, God knows where. My gutter's?, between the walls in my garage, ?

#158 Kath, I'm so sorry to learn about your troubles at work. I wish I could offer some kind of advice but all I can say is "your team" here thinks there is nothing wrong with you, sometimes others just can't enjoy the simple things in life and seem to resent those who do. Wishing you a restorative day!

Sometimes things that seem bad turn out to be good...so maybe if you lose your job something better will take its place. Sending positive thoughts your way!

182cameling
Sep 22, 2010, 10:50 am

Kath - That is NOT a team! A team is a group of people who support each other, work together and bring out individual strengths.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. Just because the witches who surrounded you don't share your interests (they're probably jealous that you have pets who love you whereas they get bitten and peed on by animals all the time) doesn't give them the right to try to put you down. If they don't like being at home, that says something about THEIR home life.

We love you, Kath! Ignore the pointy-headed people.

I was very surprised this morning when I woke up and it was 7am. I very rarely sleep that late naturally!

Being an early bird has it's ups and downs. You get picked on a little when you are falling asleep at 10pm but it's nice to be up bright and early and get all your errands and shopping done while all the stores are still empty. :)

If I get up too late, the dog breathes on me and lets me know it's time to go out. So I just gave in and let my schedule change. Sleep by 11pm is normal for me now.

Well.. hi all

morning.. early morning is my favorite time of day, usually. I rarely sleep past 5:30 am. I never use an alarm unless I am traveling, and have to be up extra early.. I have never needed it, because I don't sleep when I am going to travel anyway.

I feel like Lynda.. about 7:30 :)

Work. Yep. Survived. Came home early with .. I think a stomach virus. Two of our kids had it, and I think that is what it is. I was fine this morning.... went to work and felt ... well.. it was very hot in our room. I had a headache pretty early. At about 10:30 I suddenly felt very very unwell. I was home by 11. My BP was up and I was lightheaded..

whatever. I still have a very wobbly stomach, and feel.. not great..
but I am home.

Terri.. there is so much to tell. I dare not even try.

So.. I have read a bit, and cleaned a little.. mostly I have done nothing.. but relax.

97. The Day The World Came TO Town

This book restores ones faith in the human race. What happened in Newfoundland when America was attacked is an extraordinary story. This book tells the stories of individuals from all over the world. The story is is filled with examples of kindness shown to strangers that the Newfies treated like family.

Not a work of literary genius, but certainly a story worth reading. 4 stars.

Kath ma petite Larousse: Once Upon A Town is the WWII North Platte, Nebraska, canteen story I was telling you about that reminds me of the Gander book.

I know! I say bag the Alaska binge and let's all go spend United States dollars in Gander! They deserve them.

About 6,000 years ago, when jet aircraft were New and Cool, I went to Europe for the first time. We stopped in Gander going and coming, in order to refuel. 'Twasn't 'til the 70s that one no longer had to stop there. But I've never been off the plane, so even though I've "been there" four times, it would be a fun first. What say?
