(original thread http://www.librarything.com/topic/79086)

While using an iPod touch, iPad or iPhone, pasting text does not work in Talk posts.

I have to wonder if maybe this is an issue with Safari itself. As being a long time user of TinyMCE, a popular web form editor used in many softwares and scripts, I know that regular Safari has always had iffy javascript support.

I suspect it's because talk uses inline frames. It is still possible to post inside of the "Search talk" box?

Yes. The only other place I can remember paste not working is the search box in catalog view.

The 'Talk' box behaves oddly on re-edit, too (on mobile Safari). If it's a long post, you can't edit past the actual box part of the post (i.e. You can't scroll down within the text).

Bumping back to Reopened since Tim's request for info has been answered.

>5 klarusu:
Try a two or three finger scroll in the text box.

Pasting works now with the iOS 4.2 update!

But now I can't read my iPad in bed!

So get out of bed!

Why didn't I think of that?

Because you're too fond of of your bed maybe.

(p.s. I can relate)

9: If you're talking about the removal of the 'rotation lock' it's actually just been moved:

Double click the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar, then swipe from left to right which will bring up the on screen controls: brightness, volume and thankfully, rotation lock.

Why they changed the other to a mute button I have no idea.

What I can't understand is why they didn't make it an option in Settings--General.
Use hardware switch for Mute/Rotation lock.

Then everybody would be happy.

14: That would be excellent - now if only we had as much access to the programmers at apple as we do here at LT... :)

Steve, can we get better support for classical music? - Nothing.

Bill, why can't a clock widget persist over a re-boot in Windows7? - Nothing.

Tim, can we have collections? - Two weeks.

I ♥ LT

To be fair, we may have said two weeks, but I think the iPhone development cycle was faster than our Collections dev cycle. (lowers head in shame)

No, Cd, don't get me wrong. I was trying to set Apple and Micro$oft on one side where it is just not possible to engage in a dialogue against LT on the other side where dialogue is not only possible, but actively sought.

Sorry if I was clumsy in my wording.

I think Steve is as averse to user-configurability as Tim is. One size fits all!

Generally I am too, except in this case you have a piece of hardware that's been out for a year and people have been using it and gotten used to it...and like it.

It's like changing the hand brake in your car to make it control the lights.

21> You mean like being able to alphabetize your tags and then two years later take it away once people have gotten used to it...and like it?

;)

I know, I know, I'm being mean. But c'mon, it'd been eight months and when we finally got an official comment, it was "Feature removed." Then some vague promises to put it back if enough people hollered, then silence after a lot of people hollered.

Tag page is not my department. :) heh
To be fair though, I've been gone for a good portion of the last 5 months. I didn't even realize it was a problem until a couple of days ago. It's on the bug list and bugs are getting a LOT of attention by Tim and I right now.

23> Like I said, I feel like I'm being mean. It's not like I'm as unhappy with the responsiveness of LT as I am with the bull-headedness of Apple. But here we often get to see things that come down to simply "Tim just doesn't like it that way." I think that's probably a lot of what happens at Apple with Jobs, but we never get to confirm our hunch.

ETA: The Apple thing kind of reminds me of Lucas with the original Star Wars trilogy and the special edition. "I'm sorry if you thought the original movies you saw in the theater were THE Star Wars. They were just my imperfect first version and I've fixed all my mistakes. So if you want to see that version again, screw you."
