Description
The philosophy of the ancient Syrian-Roman Publius Syrus defies easy categorization. Part Stoic, part Epicurean, and even part Skeptic and Cynic, the wit and wisdom of this former slave turned playwright transcends doctrine and embraces humanism. His celebrated dramatic works are all but lost - what remains is a collection of over one thousand one-line quotations known as 'The Moral Sayings of Publius Syrus - A Roman Slave.' With a brevity and insight that would make Oscar Wilde proud, Syrus show more summarizes an astonishing range of human emotions in his memorable epigrams. show lessTags

A book of quotes from the mind and thoughts of the ancient philosopher Publius Syrus. Admired and quoted by great thinkers like Seneca, Julius Caesar, and Horace amongst others, Publius left a large cashe of thoughts and saying that have survived the years (1087 in this publication) and have been collected and published in this volume.
Quite easy to read, very understandable, still applicable to the modern times and I suspect that they always will as these are timeless pieces of wisdom all listed in short sentences.
Would recommend this to anyone interested in the subject of philosophy.
