The Finding

The Finding follows the story of Cassandra, a rich, young heiress who is struggling to suppress her inner werewolf. Having witnessed the death of her uncle as a result of a werewolf attack, she is understandably leery of the creatures and of her own repressed lycanthropy. As part of Lycan Law, a wolf pack that discovers a lone wolf can “claim” it as one of their own. Bryan, the Beta wolf of a Canadian pack, is sent to bring Cassie into the fold. What he does not expect is that his inner wolf and hers appear to be soul-mates.

This is the third book in the Law of the Lycans series, by Nicky Charles. I haven’t read the first two, but the author does a good job of giving the back story so I never felt lost. Also, she knows how to show more introduce a wide cast of characters and to keep a variety of storylines all moving forward. She takes great care in examining the inner struggle of Cassie and Bryan, as well as some of the secondary characters, and she excels in describing nuances of emotions. Even Cassie and Bryan as predestined soul-mates is managed with a degree of tension. You know that by the end of the book they will be together, but the author create characters who are not so sure about it.

Overall, I liked the book, and I’m interested in reading the first two books in the series. But I do have one major critique: the book needs to be trimmed. The plot sequence was fine, and the characters’ motivations made sense, but sometimes the narrative got bogged down in repetitive detail of Cassie and Bryan’s internal thoughts. Not every moment needs such precise examination. The author needs to trust that the reader is on-board. More judicious choices of which moments to examine would have helped with the pacing. Likewise, there are some redundant descriptions along the lines of:

“Kicking off his shoes and removing his shirt, [Bryan] dropped onto the bed, resting against the pillows. He sighed as his body relaxed for a moment the feel of the cool sheets and the quiet of the room before pulling his cell phone from his pocket. He’d check in with Ryne first. Folding one arm behind his head, he propped the phone between his shoulder and ear, absentmindedly scratching his chest while waiting for someone to pick up.”

The third book in Nicky Charles Laws of the Lycan series centers around Cassie Greyson the niece Anthony Greyson. After her bloody introduction into the Lycan world, Cassie went into hiding. Years later, she has set up a quiet life for herself, a job at a local grocery store, and a home with her sweet and caring boyfriend Kellen. Kellen has his faults, his gambling for example, but Cassie isn’t perfect either. Though she has a seemingly normal life, Cassi knows she’s still being hunted, but she never imagined how they would come.

Enter Bryan Cooper, beta to the one and only Ryne Taylor. Bryan has become obsessed with finding show more Cassie and not even he is sure why. By Lycan Law, their pack is responsible for her. So when she is finally spotted, Bryan is sent to bring her back to Canada and the safety of the pack. Too bad Cassie is dead set of staying away from any and all Lycans. But when Kellen goes missing, Cassie is forced to team up with Bryan to find him and try to deny the obvious chemistry that makes her wolf want to run wild. Something she has never experienced before.

Once again, I am back singing the praises of Nicky Charles! It never ceases to amaze me that she has created such a vivid world. Her characters are so realistic that it is easy to believe that this world exist right under our noses. I also, as usual, love the fact that this book was free. She has created this incredible world and isn’t interested in making money from it. Of the three books in the series, I feel this one fell rather flat, for several reasons.

1) Again, spelling errors and grammar errors galore. I'm almost convinced the word "focused" is supposed spelled with 2 ess's now!
2) Formatting issues. The Barnes & Noble edition ends up showing itself as 1120 pages long. Apparently, the actual length is 442 pages.
3) This story really doesn't flow very well. It feels disjointed and somewhat haphazard, and a tiny bit unbelievable, when compared to the previous two books.

However, even with these flaws, it's still a very enjoyable read. A little bit more polish is all that needs to be done. I look forward to seeing what Nicky Charles brings us next!

Third in the series and definitely not my favorite, but it was still well done. The writing was great, I just wasn't into the characters as much as with the other books in the series. I'll be adding this author to my list of favorites and looking forward to reading more by her!

The bones of the story is good but it is really long or at least it seemed it.
The Hero and heroine are apart for the first third so maybe it would have helped if they were moving in the same circles earlier.
Also there are a few sub plots going on so I felt it detracted from the main couple.
The heroine tries to develop a friendship into a sexual relationship with her good 'friend' but something is missing and the Hero has 'offers' from other women.
Mate connection.
Secondary characters, previous couples from the series appear.
Breadcrumbs dropped for future possible story-lines.

Absolutely loved this series and can not wait for the next installment. Engaging story, well written characters and dialogue, romance, mystery and werewolfs. What more could you want?

Bryan has been sent on a mission by his Alpha to find Cassie and bring her back as part of the pack. Cassie has been in hiding for years, following the death of her uncle, and doesn't want to be found. Though she heard from he uncle's own lips that she is a warewolf, she doesn't want to believe it is true. Bryan must convince Cassie that being a werewolf is not something to fear but rather to embrace.
