Amazing. Dark. Deep. Existential. Andreyev was a genius, and I never use that term lightly.
Stories included:
1) The Thought - A story about a doctor that killed his friend. Psychological study on madness and sanity.
2) The Red Laugh - This was a novella that I read several years ago. It was the first writing that I had ever read by Andreyev. It is very disturbing, penetrating, and surreal study of war.
3) At the Station - A beautiful short story about a man observing a gendarme at a train station.
4) The Thief - Existential tale of a thief on a train ride to see his prostitute girlfriend.
5) The Abyss - Terrifying tale of a young couple's nightmare stroll and innocence destroyed.
6) Darkness - A well-known terrorist that happens to be a virgin visits a brothel. Very Christ-like character. One of Andreyev's best stories.
7) The Seven Who Were Hanged - A study of seven different mental states of people condemned to be hanged. One of his most well known works.

Don't miss the amazing Introduction by Andreyev's granddaughter. ( )
