Description

Put on your armor-it's time to fight. We are in a spiritual war, William Gurnall reminds us, and "the Christian's safety lies in resisting. All the armour provided is to defend the Christian fighting, none to secure him flying; stand, and the day is ours; fly or yield, and all is lost." This hard-hitting volume is packed with biblical wisdom for day-to-day Christian living, as helpful today as it was when first published nearly four hundred years ago. Although history left us little show more knowledge of William Gurnall's life, it preserved this book-a legacy that has encouraged many generations of saints to fight sin, love Christ, and live holy and faithful lives as Christians who have clothed themselves in the complete armor of God."Amongst all the Puritan writings that have come down to us, none…are more practical than this one." - Hamilton SmithWilliam Gurnall (1616-79) was born in King's Lynn, Norfolk, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Cambridge University. From 1644 until his death, he served as rector of St. Peter and St. Paul's Church, Lavenham, Suffolk. show less

This should be required reading for all Christians. It is theologically heavy in some areas so can be used more as a reference tool than for reading cover to cover. Full of practical advice for the Christian battles in life. Highly recommended.
Gurnall, William, The Christian in Complete Armor: A Treatise of the Saint's War Against the Devil, complete and unabridged (Carlisle, PA: The Banner of Truth Trust, 1979), EEBO; Translations: Welsh, OCLC 28128434.
"Peerless and priceless; every line full of wisdom." -- C.H. Spurgeon
"If I might read only one book beside the Bible, I would choose The Christian in Complete Armour." -- John Newton
"A beautiful feature in Gurnall's book is its richness in pithy, pointed, and epigrammatical sayings. You will often find in a line and a half some great truth, put so concisely, and yet so fully, that you really marvel how so much thought could be got into so few words.
"Solid scriptural theology, like that contained in these pages, should be show more valued and studied in the church. Books in which Scripture is reverently regarded as the only rule of faith and practice -- books in which Christ and the Holy Ghost have their rightful office -- books in which justification, and sanctification, and regeneration, and faith, and grace, and holiness are clearly, distinctly, and accurately delineated and exhibited -- these are the only books which do real good. Few things need reviving more than a taste for such books as these among readers." -- J.C. Ryle
Also praised by John Flavel and Richard Baxter.
Said to be among the 10 greatest Christian books ever written.
