madu Both of these are stories about children sacrificing a cherished toy for the sake of others.

Oh! Major points for the little black girl who figures out the right thing to do almost all by herself, and the fact that the secondary character is the white girl. What a sweet story, perfect message, charming illustrations. Too bad it's not #ownvoices, but it reads as if it is, so imo it's still worth recommending.
This book was a lot of fun to read. This book tells the story off Jamaica, a young girl who finds a red, sock hat and a stuffed dog in the park. She brings the hat to the lost and found, but keeps the dog, in hopes of it remaining hers. When she is told to return it by her mother, as the child who lost it, may be looking for it. When she was playing at the park the next day, she found the owner of the stuffed dog. In my opinion, the text is what made this book so great, thought the illustrations are beautiful as well. This book teaches readers about ownership, friendship, and responsibility, things that are essential in life. If children are able to see that Jamaica gave the stuffed dog back, as it did not belong to her, they will be show more able to imagine themselves in similar situations and how they should handle them. Whenever something is found and you are not sure who it belongs to, bring it to the lost and found. Great read! show less
I really liked this book because of the illustrations and the plot. The illustrations in the book really show the characters emotions. For example, when Jamaica felt guilty for not giving the stuffed dog to the lost and found, the illustration shows her turmoil and frustration with herself. The plot was great because Jamaica went through a problem and found a solution for herself. For example, she knew she should have taken the dog to the lost and found so she did, and then it got even better when she realized she had found the dogs owner. This gave the story a happy ending and solid closure. Overall, this story was an awesome children's book and it taught the lesson of honesty is the best policy.
Summary: Jamaica was a curious girl who strolled to the park herself one afternoon and found a hat and a stuffed animal dog. She went to return the hat, but saved the dog for herself. She loved the dog with all of her heart and could not part with it. She took the dog to the swings, the slide, and even home. At home she made the dog a little bed until her mother came in to talk to her. Jamaica was convinced by her mother to return the dog, so the next day, sad, Jamaica took the dog to the lost and found. She then meets a girl outside crying who is looking for a hat and dog that she left at the park the day before. Jamaica becomes excited and tells the girl where she can find her things.
Review: This is a wonderful book with many aspects show more that children can relate too. The central message of this book is responsibility and the value of helping others. Jamaica would have loved to keep the stuffed animal for herself. Right when she found the dog she plopped him into her bicycle basket and returned the hat. She was in love with the dog so much and was distraught when her parents told her she must return it. At a young age Jamaica only thought of her own feelings when finding the dog, but when she met the sad girl looking for the dog she understood. "Jamaica was almost as happy as..." the girl who found her dog, which shows the readers that Jamaica felt wonderful that she was able to help the girl out. show less

A young girl finds some things left behind at a park, she turns them in at the lost and found, but wants to keep the toy puppy. That night she feels bad, and talks to her mother. She realizes that she should bring the puppy to the lost and found, because someone is probably really missing their toy. the next day she returns the toy, and comes across a young girl who seems to be looking for something. Jamaica helps the girl and tells her the puppy is in the lost and found, the girl is so grateful for Jamaica's help, and they become friends. a good story about thinking about others feelings.
I enjoyed reading this book. It's about a Jamaican girl who finds a stuffed animal on a playground, and she ends up taking it to lost and found even though she wants to keep it. She ends up finding the girl who is looking for her stuffed animal and leads her to it. It is a great story and shows that it is rewarding to do the right thing.
Jamaica is a little girl the main character in this book. The story follows her as she finds things on the playground one day. She turns everything in to the lost and found except for a stuffed dog. The reader follows along as she learns that just because she wants something that she cannot just take it and have it. Jamaica takes the toy back the next day, and makes a new friend who is looking for a toy she lost at the playground the day before. Jamaica takes the girl to the lost and found and gets her the dog back. This could be useful in the classroom to help remind the students that it is important to always be kind and courteous to others.
