A bit more organization would have helped with this. The selection is a bit haphazard with no indication as to the religious tradition or lack thereof of the contributors. The beauty or profundity of the individual selections would be neither enhanced no diminished by having this information, but it would give the reader some direction.

My especial criticism is that the title "Earth Prayers" sets the reader up with an expectation as to form. No matter which deity or great power or the universe or whatever is addressed, one expects such to be addressed. True enough, the subtitle says "Prayers, Poems, and Invocations," which is broader in its focus, but I was first attracted, when I bought this book in a used bookstore some 12 years ago, show more to "prayers." Another note about the subtitle: "365" suggests one a day for a year, but the calendar in the back doesn't come close to 365. This was disappointing. show less

Good selection from multitude of sources

A selection of prayers and meditations from a wide variety of sources: poetry, religion, wise men and women. This book can help us express gratitude and allow us to feel part of something bigger than ourselves.

Many of the selections could simply be understood by reading some poetry, but overall a decent enough
selection that anyone should be able to find a specific idea they are looking for.
This book contains prayers and poems from many traditions, all having to do with nature, the earth and its creatures. They are well chosen and categorized in a useful manner. There is also a "Calendar of Prayer" at the end with suggestions for days it might be most appropriate to use these prayers. A very useful resource for anyone who might have responsibility for planning Earth Day services or similar events, whether religious or secular. Also helpful for private prayer.
A lovely collection of prayers with an ecological or creation spirituality theme.
