Description
First published on the 700th anniversary of the pivotal event in Scottish history, the epic story of Robert Bruce comes to a climax at the Battle of Bannockburn. Robert has achieved his great ambition to be crowned King of Scotland, but in doing so has provoked the wrath of the new king of England, Edward II. Raising the feared dragon banner, Edward marches north, determined to recapture the kingdom. But the English are not Robert's only enemies, and he is forced to flee after murdering his show more great rival John Comyn, splitting the kingdom apart. Robert has a crown, but no country, the will to lead, but no real authority. Fighting from hidden strongholds and the Western Isles, with the support of a few brave men and the alluring noblewoman, Christiana, Robert drives towards Bannockburn where an epic confrontation with Edward will decide the future of Scotland. show lessTags

Continuing the Robert Bruce trilogy, this book follows him from his crowning to the triumph of Bannockburn, with lots of adversity in between. And hope and determination too. The book crams lots inside its covers, even if some of it is simplified and fictionalised.
Welcome to superior Scottish history. This is not the Bruce as shown in 'Braveheart'. This is way
better. Full on battles and oddly enough a far travelled Bruce (attractions today in brackets) : Turnberry (golf), Islay (whisky) and Ben Cruchan (power station inside a mountain). The wives and kids are sent to Tain (near Inverness. Glenmorangie distillary).
Against Bruce are The Black Cowyn, English knights (including Aymer de Valance who is NOT
VERY NICE) and Edward (Longshanks and his son). oh there is the climax at Bannockburn where it is not a good day for one side. If you are a stranger to Scottish history I'M NOT TELLING.
I recommend this trilogy to people. Read and then watch 'Warrior King' starring Chris Pine.
