A historical supernatural romance mixed with a mystery theme. Both of the MCs have special powers, although I would have liked to see these powers in action a little more. The historical romance is hot, playful, and thoughtful, just like the leading man. The supporting characters are great. Think Victorian Ghost Hunters. For romance fans.

The hero and heroine find themselves drawn together with a party of others, in a haunted house trying to banish the ghost within. It quickly because apparent, however that they are not dealing with just an ordinary ghost but rather a demon with the power to seriously harm the living persons of the home. The heroine is shunned from society after a bad engagement and is headstrong and independent. But she's far from your typical heroine in that she can read peoples minds through touch. How surprised is she to climb into what she thinks is her brothers room one night only to find his friend lodged within and after a brief touch, to find out he's a dragon shifter? They share an impulsive but passionate kiss and though they spend the book show more sharing discreet glances and secret conversations, the are able to hide their courtship perfectly from the rest of the house. In fact, the hid it so well that as the reader, you forget sometimes that it's actually a romance novel. Sure their are romantic parts and obvious emotions between the two, most of the time they are solving the mystery of the ghost. And what little time they can actually gain in private, the conversations are banter and laughs. Don't get me wrong, it was nice for once to have a hero who wasn't tortured. The hero was jolly, witty and totally in control of his inner dragon. The only time it came out was when the heroine was in danger. For the rest of the time, you wouldn't ever think that he was anything other than human. They talked about his nature like people would talk about the weather. The heroine was never afraid of the fact that he wasn't human, in fact she joked about it with him. She was also very free with her sexual acts for a woman of her time. They bang in a hayloft and then go on as if nothing had happened. Then one night, the heroine goes to warn the hero that her family wants them to marry and the hero instantly, but in a blasé way suggested that they should get married. The book was fun and interesting to read but I found it to be very tame and even a tad bland. show less

THE HIGHLAND DRAGON'S LADY is a good gothic ghost story combined with dragons because why not! I enjoyed the way the mystery of the spirit haunting the house started to unravel with a classic seance gone wrong scene but the worldbuilding was a bit hard for me to grasp. I am not sure if it was an "I haven't read the first book" situation or I just was not getting something because I did feel a little lost as to what was going on aside from the fact that a spirit was haunting a residence. Also, the story didn't really have much in the way of dragons which is fine for a gothic novel...not a story whose dragon doesn't come off as very dragon-like.

Reggie is spunky and adventurous, the exact opposite show more of what a Victorian lady should be which I loved. Her verbal sparing with Colin is really fun especially in their first meeting. I didn't really get a centuries old Highland Dragon vibe from Colin. He was very passive throughout the story. Colin is supposed to be a Highlander and a dragon but he just comes off as a mild mannered Scotsman which wouldn't be bad in another book. Their relationship just kind of happened with no passion really felt between them. I do question just how they are going to get through the whole Reggie not living as long as Colin issue.

THE HIGHLAND DRAGON'S LADY was an okay story with an interesting premise and some fun banter between Reggie and Colin. There was Colin and mentions of others but he seemed to be the only one in existence for this story. I also had some trouble focusing on what was happening as there was so much going on.
