It's been 30 years. I can hardly believe I'm that old, now, old enough to say that it's been 30 years since I last read a book that still lingers in memory.
I loved it then, a funny, sad, idea-drenched historical novel.
And I read the first page again; it comes back.
I don't think I need to be embarrassed for having loved this book.
