Description

Life as a bird can be stressful! From worrying about airplanes, windows, and getting enough worms to eat, it is clear that birds can be anxious beings. Through a light-touch, quizzical depiction of bird behaviour, All Birds Have Anxiety uses colourful images and astute explanations to explore with gentle humour what it means to live with anxiety day-to-day, and how to begin to deal with it. Following the style of the best-selling All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome and All Dogs Have ADHD, show more wonderful colour photographs express the complex and difficult ideas related to anxiety disorder in an easy-to-understand way. This simple yet profound book validates the deeper everyday experiences of anxiety, provides an empathic understanding of the many symptoms associated with anxiety, and offers compassionate suggestions for change. The combination of understanding and gentle humour make this the ideal introduction to anxiety disorder for those diagnosed with this condition, their family and friends and those generally interested in understanding anxiety. show less

Impulse grab at the library. Much better than I even hoped! Very short and accessible so the shelving of juv. nf makes sense, but really for all ages. I wouldn't mind owning this for the next time I feel overwhelmed. Funny photos of birds really help, and so does the empathy & guidance in the text.

I particularly liked the penguin depicted as having social anxiety. Yes, I know, it was just grooming, but still awfully cute. There is a 'key' to the birds' species in the back, but it's not a science book, and it's not to be read as one.

There are companion books and I will absolutely look for them.
All Birds Have Anxiety by Kathy Hoopmann is THE book to get if you have a kid with anxiety. I wish I had this when my son was younger, I am sure this would have helped. This approaches a serious subject without stress but using funny faces of birds at the right time of the conversation. This light touch eases the stress and the story is about how the BIRDS have to deal with the stress of their day. All the symptoms of anxiety is discussed and pictures showing birds lighten the mood. How stress effects the day to day activities and what can a bird do is also in there. It is so well done. Delightful! Explains stress/anxiety symptoms, effects, and coping is such a caring and fun manner! Thanks NetGalley for letting me read this wonderful book!
This book is appropriate for kindergarten-2nd grade. It's about how anxiety affects people and helpful, healthy ways to cope if you struggle with anxiety. I thought this book was really insightful and a cute way to explain anxiety to younger students using animals. I would read this to my students for mental health awareness and discuss more healthy ways to conquer anxiety.
A fun book that talks about anxiety while also showing cool photos of different birds. A great book to have in a primary classroom for your students to look at and feel seen by.
This book is good for pretty much all ages, it is a picture book so children can use it but also high school age and under can use this book because it deals with anxiety which is an important topic for middle-high school age groups. This book is about birds and how they experience symptoms of anxiety as well, it kind of takes the idea of anxiety and applies it to birds and how it is okay and there are ways to cope with it. In a classroom I would use this to make students feel safe and to not be ashamed if they have anxiety, but also allow them to gain information about classmates who may be dealing with anxiety.
This book is for primary aged students. This story is a nonfiction piece about anxiety and what to mean for kids to encounter anxiety and the issues that accompany it. This book makes an important connection between an interesting topic--animals or birds--an a significant issue that many students want to learn about and can identify with.
