Chester Cricket needs help. That's the message John Robin carries into the Times Square subway station where Harry Cat and Tucker Mouse live. Quickly, Chester's good friends set off on the long, hard journey to the Old Meadow, where all is not well.

Houses are creeping closer. Bulldozers and construction are everywhere. It looks like Chester and his friends' home will be ruined and the children of the town won't have a place to play. Harry Cat and Tucker Mouse are used to the city life. Now in the country, they need to find a place to stay and good things to eat. And most of all, they must think of a plan to help their friends.
A sequel to Cricket in Time's Square, good primarily as a followup to the story. I found the story more interesting after I had read the first; I don't think it stands alone all that well. Uses the probably cliche theme of animals' habitats being threatened by human development. But Selden's whimsical characters are fun and the book would be interesting for those children who like this type of animal story.
Once again, my kids enjoyed the book more than I did - although I did like this one a bit more than Times Square. Loved the trick the animals played on the humans - even if there's no way it would have really fooled them for any length of time.

Is your best friend in trouble? Do you need to go to a place where everyone is depending on you? Well so do I. Hi! I am Tucker mouse and me and my best friend Harry the cat are going to our old pal Chester the cricket’s home in the countryside. It all starts when John the robin comes to time square to tell us the news. Once we get there, we see some human kids and one of them called Ellen took Harry as a pet and he liked it. Now everything is in my paws. He lives the life while I watch and think. But then he told us to think of him as a spy. That can do. If you want to know what happens then read Tucker’s countryside.
