Not in any way a comic strip guy, but as i was groping through my vast assortment of books in my library to choose my next read, i stumbled across this. Never read Garfield, although he was so iconic when i was growing up, i could have picked him out of a lineup for some reason. I now am also a seasoned cat caretaker, for which i am grateful.....my cats make me laugh every single day!! So, i opened this little tome up and began to read a few pages.....and of course, you know what happened.....in what seemed like a flash, I was done!!! at least 10 laugh-out-loud moments for me.....cute, clever, clean, charming.....and remarkably accurate in many instances. Thoroughly enjoyed and now have another book on my 'I have read' shelf. Thanks for show more the laughs, Mr. Davis. Sort of ashamed that this was my first Garfield ever. show less
Garfield is always a fun, easy comic where you can leave your brain at the door but enjoy plenty of snickering at the felines' bizarre and selfish antics. A cute book that's fun to look through.
Summary:
The graphic novel, Garfield Sits Around the House, by Jim Davis is a humorous graphic novel. It is filled with various short stories of what Garfield the cat does around the house. For example, one story talks about how Garfield's owner Jon brings his grandma over to visit. Garfield loves Jon's grandma because she feeds him human food and cuddles him like a baby. Another short story within the graphic novel talks about how Garfield plans to steal his owner's steak by putting the steak inside his toy teddy bear. He starts by removing the stuffing from the bear so that the steak will fit. Eventually Garfield gets caught, and is in very big trouble. Each story is short and simple, yet contains humor and enjoyment for the show more reader.

Personal Reaction:
I enjoyed reading the graphic novel, Garfield Sits Around the House, because it was a simple novel to read and was humorous. I also enjoyed reading this graphic novel because as a child I used to watch Garfield on TV, and would also read the Garfield comic strips in the newspaper. Garfield Sits Around the House, brought back many wonderful childhood memories for me.

Classroom Extension Idea:
The graphic novel would be a wonderful book to use within my classroom anywhere from first grade to third grade. The graphic novel is an easy read, and has great illustrations for the reader to follow. The panels are laid out nicely and make it easy for the reader to follow, particularly if they are struggling readers. This novel is only one of the many Garfield graphic novels to a series. I think it would be beneficial to purchase the series for my classroom someday if I were to teach first graders, because it would be a book to help aid beginning readers.
