There’s nothing like a stack of pancakes covered in butter and syrup to make getting out of bed easier in the morning! The three siblings in this story cook up a pancake storm with a “sift, stir, whir, whisk.” They don’t just cook and eat the pancakes; they celebrate the wonderfulness of pancakes with snappy rhymes and exuberant joy:
“With a little dab of maple behind each ear,
go out in the world and give a pancake cheer!”
Weston’s rhyming text is more like a chant or cheer, with lots of exclamations, “Shazzam!” “Holy Cow!” Gammell takes the text and runs; there’s no end to the imaginative ways the kids cook and eat pancakes. They cook pancakes in different shapes, flip them through the air, eat them with syrup and show more jam and berries, and even stash a few in the basement (for later). The illustrations are colorful and chaotically joyful. Splatters of color (or maybe pancake batter?) adorn each page, as the round-faced, button-nosed children eat pancake after pancake.

This book is an illustrated poem about pancakes. It shows waking up to the smells and sounds of making pancakes. It takes you through the process of making them and eating them.I loved this book. The poem was super cute and the illustrations worked well with it. The illustrations look very messy like a child drew it which I liked because it shows how messy it can get in the kitchen with kids cooking. I especially enjoyed how they had a recipe on the back of the book I thought that this was really cool.
I enjoyed the simple rhyming of this story. The illustrations are created using pencil, watercolor, and pastels. The illustrations are colorful, detailed, and child-like, making them much more entertaining. This is a good story to teach children about the process of cooking pancakes. With the pancake recipe at the back of the book, children and adults can make this together. What I did not like about this story is that the children wake up and decide to cook pancakes without parental supervision. If reading this story to younger children, it may be good to point out that cooking should only be done with adults.
"Hey Pancakes!" is a incredibly simple book about kids making pancakes for breakfast. There is rhyming scheme that grabs your attention and you can even sing the words instead of just saying them! I think that all kids can relate to just not wanting to get out of bed and do anything but sleep, so I think this relates to kids in that way. Students can learn about rhymes or just listen to them. Other than listening for rhyming words I do not think that kids will learn anything, but they sure will be entertained.
Fun children's book about making pancakes, a splurge I miss! The ilustrations capture the fun and (sometimes) craziness of making and cleaning up after pancakes. There'a a pancake recipe in the back.
This book is bright, messy, chaotic, and nostalgic.
The story Pancake is about children waking up from bed to make pancakes. In the story they show how the pancakes were made, how they ate them, what they put on them, and how much they enjoyed them. This is a rhyming story and its also very colorful with bright pictures. I think children will enjoy reading this story because its fun. Children love pancakes and syrup!
