In cooking school, Lo was taught to utilize every scrap. It is an economic issue, but also an ecological and social one. When she is cooking at home, she generally makes ingredient-focused dishes that are fast and easy... but use every bit of the meat, vegetables or what-have-you. So if you're happiest on your own, alone due to commitments, or have different tastes from the rest of your family or partners, Lo wants you to celebrate your solitary moments. -- adapted from introduction… (more)

Interesting ideas for single serving cooking.

Rather than suggesting that we cook full recipes and eat the leftovers later, Anita Lo gives us a book with downsized recipes so that we can have something different every day. This would make a good gift for my friend whose mother had a horror of food poisoning and never served anything after the second day. (Whereas my family of country people didn't worry about it.. I'll eat most anything.)

This book would make an excellent college graduation present. ( )

Looking for simple, one-person meals for my dd who recently moved into her first apartment without roommates and this is not the book for her. It is a lovely cookbook by a professional chef, who is very funny and realistic about why someone could be dining alone, but not for a poor college student who just needs to grab something and go. So, if anyone wants to cook one of these gourmet meals for her, or even me, let's do this. Fun to read and dream about, just not the cookbook I was hoping for. ( )
