by Nikki R. Haley

Description
"A revealing, dramatic, deeply personal book about the most significant events of our time, written by the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is widely admired for her forthright manner ("With all due respect, I don't get confused"), her sensitive approach to tragic events, and her confident representation of America's interests as our Ambassador to the United Nations during times of crisis and consequence. In this book, Haley offers a first-hand perspective on show more major national and international matters, as well as a behind-the-scenes account of her tenure in the Trump administration. This book reveals a woman who can hold her own-and better-in domestic and international power politics, a diplomat who is unafraid to take a principled stand even when it is unpopular, and a leader who seeks to bring Americans together in divisive times"-- show lessTags

I generally dislike politicians and books by them, but this was a refreshing break. Haley seems honest, competent, and communicates clearly. I disagree with her on a lot of issues, but she did a good job in SC and at the UN and hopefully there will be more from her in 2024 .
It was inspiring and informative to read Haley's story and see the work she has been doing. I'm not normally one to read books like this, but there were some things I appreciated reading about and learning from her stories.
One quote that jumped out at me:
"I never understood the fear that many diplomats had about being isolated. My view was, and is, if your position is right, you should not be ashamed of it. You should be proud to stand alone with it if you must."
3.5 rounded down.

Mostly focused on her professional life, which wasn't that educational. I personally would have preferred to know how she even got to the position of Governor of South Carolina. She had some good insights on how important it is to establish a clear chain of command. If she was under another agency when she was an ambassador for the UN, she wouldn't have been able to make much of an impact.
The rest of the book was more informative and give her perspective on how dysfunctional the UN is, the situation in many refugee camps around the world, how Trump's cabinet worked to undermine him, etc.

Self-serving political piece that tries to 'splain how Trump was mistreated and misunderstood
