Persepolis vol 1 is absolutely beautiful, weaving tragedy and comedy to create a story that feels very true to a child’s perspective. I love the way Satrapi depicts God as a soft, enveloping presence and the way she uses repeated patterns to give panels about the revolution a sense of motion and urgency. I even like the way she depicts dead bodies with open mouths and rolling eyes: the effect is that of something horrible stamped in black and white on a child’s memory. I received the first two volumes as a gift from my uncle, and I eagerly look forward to reading the rest. no reviews | add a review

I ended up "binging" the book in one evening. ( )
