Listened as an audiobook. I really like Dan Siegel and have listened to a couple of his books already. I enjoy his voice. I liked this book in the beginning and really enjoyed the meditation section. I found the acronyms hard to take in and the last section really fizzled out for me. The wrap up with Albert Einstein and our humanity pleased me very much. I may try this book again in print and see if I do better with it.
great insights into interface of mindfulness and social awareness (and "attachment' theory) leading towards a multi-skull social brain perspective.

particular breakthrough findings on nine functions of prefrontal cortex

clear plainspoken prose style, well-organized
While Siegel's work isn't the easiest to read, this book presents compelling motivation to practice mindfulness.
Read but need to reread carefully. Seems to be an important contribution to understanding the science of meditation, but definitely misses out on the body stuff (see heartmath research).
Dan Siegel reflects on studies of mindful awareness practices such as meditation's positive changes in brain and behaviour. Mindful awareness is shown to improve self awareness, self regulation, attention, relationships, self compassion. Changes correlating with improved behaviour or perceived well-being are seen in the "middle" prefrontal cortex areas of the brain. Some speculation on current research on "mirror neurons".
