Description

Who murdered solo violinist Lucy Carless during a concert by the Markshire Orchestra? There are several suspects, any one of whom might have strangled her with a silk stocking. Lawyer, Franics Pettigrew, as reluctant honorary treasurer to the Markshire Orchestral Society, finds himself caught up with assisting the police in their investigations.

themulhern Another book where the motivation for the murderer depends on a point of British law. Sayers' book is richer and more complex, with a fully realized victim, murderer, and supporting characters.

A pleasant cozy crime novel that will delight people who enjoy murder mysteries of the golden age. There is some delightful humour woven into the relationships amongst the members of the musical society at the heart of this story.

Very slight book. The action occurs over a short period of time. The motivation for the quite callous murder seems pretty insubstantial. There is a good deal of humor about the investigation and the events leading up to the murder.

A great story where one clue involves a rather interesting point of British law. I lawyer serves on the music committee of a local music group as its treasurer (his wife is one of the performers). A relatively new detective inspector is in charge of the case and his sergeant has formed a rather low estimate of this inspector. The chief constable wants to help the inspector and secretly consults with the lawyer (noted for help in an earlier case--The Bare Bodkin I think). There are some good red herrings.
More inheritance law, hingeing on 'Deceased Wife's Sister', further complicated by whether certain characters can play the clarinet.

Originally published as When the Wind Blows. The solo violinist is strangled at a concert. Inspector Trimble investigates guided by Francis Pettigrew, an experienced lawyer who happened to be secretary of the shire orchestral society because his wife was a musician.
This guy writes classic UK mystery novels - totally reccommended
